D.C. police said the man, who worked as a hairstylist and DJ, was found unconscious at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and T Street, N.W., near Upproar, a gay bar, around 5 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27. A gay man was confirmed dead.
Friends of the victim, Brian Smith, said in a GoFundMe message asking for help with medical expenses that he was hospitalized with severe head injuries. His family told Fox 5 News that he is in a coma.
A spokesperson for the D.C. Police Department confirmed that Smith died on Nov. 7 and that the cause and circumstances of his death are pending with the Northern Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office. “We will release more information as it becomes available,” D.C. Police Department spokesman Thomas Lynch told the Washington Blade.
At some point, Smith was taken by ambulance from a Washington, D.C., hospital, found unconscious and taken to a hospital in Virginia, possibly at the request of his family, according to information released by the D.C. Police Department. It seems.
Police also released video showing the two suspects and the vehicle they believe they used to rob Smith.
