Brian Smith, a well-known and popular D.C.-based DJ and hairstylist, was robbed and killed.
Smith, also known as “Barber,” was found unconscious in the 500 block of T Street NW around 5 a.m. Oct. 26. He suffered serious injuries, including head trauma, and was found with blood on his nose and hands, reports said. Belongs to DC FOX WTTG. He was taken to a local hospital, where he remained in a coma for over a week before passing away on Thursday, November 7th.
Created by Smith’s friends gofundme The page was intended to help him financially while he recovered from his injuries. A crowdfunding campaign raised more than $54,000.
Police said they believe two suspects attacked Smith and stole her cell phone, wallet and credit cards. The Metropolitan Police Department announced surveillance video footage The purpose is to identify the suspect and his vehicle.
The suspect in question is involved in at least three more cases.
Shortly after the attack on Smith, at approximately 5:50 a.m., they assaulted and attempted to rob another person in the 1900 block of 14th Street NW.
Five minutes later, he robbed another person in the 1800 block of Vermont Avenue Northwest, followed by another robbery in the 900 block of Rhode Island Avenue Northeast around 7:22 a.m., police said. press release.
Immediately after the attack, Smith’s boyfriend, Tyler, told WTTG’s Shomali Stone that he hoped police would catch the perpetrator and prevent similar acts of violence against others.
The Metropolitan Police is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Smith in the now-fatal robbery. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 202-727-9099 or text the information to MPD’s text tip line at 50411.
The attack on Smith comes amid concerns about an increase in violence against D.C. residents in areas with active nightlife scenes.
A male model was recently hospitalized after being attacked by at least seven people at a local McDonald’s last week after a night out at a local gay bar. He has since been released from the hospital and is recovering from several injuries sustained during the attack.
