We are appalled by the photos of Frankie and Ryan’s gay wedding at San Francisco City Hall. This love fest proves that sometimes life’s most romantic moments truly feel like they were on the silver screen.

The Proposal: A cinematic start in London
The path to the altar began with a surprise that felt like a scene from a movie. “I proposed on a surprise trip to London,” says Frankie. “One of our recent favorite movies is notting hill I proposed in front of a movie bookstore. Afterwards, there was a surprise concert by Sabrina Carpenter. ”

Love Story: From our first date at Green’s
Long before their engagement in London, their story began with a digital connection and a memorable first meal. “Like many other couples, we met on Bumble,” says Frankie. “We talked for weeks via text before setting up our first date. Ryan was a vegetarian, so I chose a vegan restaurant called Green’s in San Francisco, where we had our reception lunch. I took one look at him and took my breath away.”
The date is an immediate success, but a moment of confusion at the end leaves Frankie dangerously close to believing otherwise. “I thought the date went well until the check came…I put down my card, and when the waiter went to take the check, Ryan said, ‘No, no! I’m definitely splitting the bill,’ and put down the card. I thought, ‘Oh, he definitely didn’t like the date and never wanted to see me again.'”
Thankfully, Ryan was quick to clear the air. “After the date, he asked me to go for a long walk and insisted I give him a ride home,” Frankie says. “At my front door, he set the time for our second date right then and there. I said goodbye and reached for the door. It was a movie-like moment when he gently tugged on my arm and looked at me. His expression said, ‘Why don’t we kiss at the end of the date?’ I leaned in and we had our first kiss before we said goodbye.”
As a queer writer, I love how their story comes full circle, from their nervous first date at the Greens to celebrating their wedding reception in the same space as their husbands.

The Big Day: A Timeless City Hall Celebration
When it came time to plan their wedding, the couple focused on intimacy, a meaningful location, and the inspiration that culminated in their wedding. Sex and the City: The Movie. The groom wore a custom tuxedo in neutral tones, as requested by the groom, as guests looked on. The altar was decorated with classic white floral patterns, and violinist Rose Cleri serenaded the couple.
“We wanted a simple and elegant San Francisco City Hall wedding with one close family member and one friend,” says Frankie. Above all, they wanted their wedding to be “something we love the most, and something that will be timeless when we look back. We had a simple wedding at City Hall and went to The Greens for a lunch reception.”

Frankie and Ryan certainly shine like movie stars. this modern romance. As they step into this new chapter, we hope that they will have a lifetime of breathtaking “movie moments.”

Thoughts on Queer Weddings
Gay grooms did not encounter any difficulties in planning their LGBTQ+ weddings. In fact, the process felt effortless from start to finish. “From start to finish everyone was so welcoming and made the process incredibly smooth,” says Frankie.
Frankie’s gratitude for the journey towards marriage equality is a beautiful reminder of why these days are so important. “As LGBTQ+ people, we do not take lightly our right to marry. We are grateful to those who paved this path before us so we could have families and be with the people we love.” ![]()
