Former Grindr staff says app went downhill after one key change

A former Grindr employee has identified one key change that may have led to what some users describe as the app’s demise.

Grindr is currently trialling a premium subscription plan that publishes artificial intelligence and pays members $500 per month.

The plan, called EDGE, is being tested with select users in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and will range in price from $349.99 to $499.99. This does not replace the current Grindr Unlimited subscription service, but builds on it.

As per voxOver the past few years, Grindr users have complained that the app has become increasingly difficult to use and expensive.

A former marketing employee who left Grindr in 2023 and wanted to be known as “Ryan” told Box that the economic downturn began in 2022, when the company went public with an initial public offering.

“Ryan” said the change shifted the app’s focus from users to investors.

george allison It was announced that he will become the dating app’s newest CEO in September 2022. His appointment sparked concern after it was revealed that he had expressed support for anti-transgender politicians.

Ryan said of the app’s failure: “Grindr really changed the game in many ways. It was a different type of cruising.”

“It was very cool and original at the time, but now it looks like Silicon Valley.”

AJ balance, Grindr’s chief product officer responded to criticism that the app strayed from its core mission of making connectivity easier, saying:

“If the user does not want to be involved, [with these products]no need to go there. You can also opt out of these features if you do not want to participate at all. ”
