Fabulously filthy fun for all

I should have known that I was having a good time as soon as I was planning on sitting in the ominous “splash zone” with my ticket.

Thanks to the rather seductive acrobatics of the water bowl, I got a light sprinkle until the end of the show, but didn’t have to wait until the end until the good times began.

This is BriefsFrom an incredibly strange Australian performance group Factory briefs. They have been around since 2008, but for beginners, Briefs The experience is a delicious emulsification of drugs, dance, comedy, theater, burlesque, acrobatics, circus arts and clowns.

It’s hard to cram into a show that lasts two hours or up until then, and it’s fair to wonder who these are the jacks of all trades and whose masters they are. But trust me, each artist here is a master, whether spinning on a sia wheel, hanging from aviation silk, or distorting his body into a frankly ridiculous shape. And they do it all in a disorderly manner every night on Outernet in London until the end of the month.

The evening is led by the host, ring leader, bearded queen and Fez, co-founder of the briefs factory. Behind them you can always see drag queens Nastia and Serenity, with flips, kicks and high heel clicks distorted.

We were able to see the shaking of the burlesque fan held by co-founder Mark Winmill. Or, if you’re an acrobatic clown, you might see your penis. If you’re lucky enough to sit in the front row, you might even be drinking a cocktail through a pair of nostrils and through a straw. Don’t ask to explain, it all makes sense when it’s in front of you.

This is a risqué, risky performance art, but that’s it: art. The level of skill, thought and intelligence in each routine is radiated from each performer, and you are totally in awe, your eyes pop out, very – as Fez’s catchphrase puts it – jetheressss of their talent.
