Donald Trump once again took an anti-transgender stance, speaking at an event hosted by anti-LGBTQ+ group Moms for Liberty.
The Republican candidate appeared on Friday (August 30) at the annual rally of Moms for Liberty, a national conservative nonprofit that opposes any mention of LGBTQ+ rights, racial or ethnic discrimination, or discrimination in schools.
During the event, Trump lamented the growing acceptance of transgender people in the United States, argued that transgender women should not be able to play girls’ sports and said gender-affirming medical care should be restricted.
He also insinuated that schools are allowing children to transition too quickly, which is patently false.
He said: “The transgender issue is incredible. Think about it: your child goes to school, a few days later has surgery and comes home. The school decides what happens to your child, and 15 years later many of these kids are saying, ‘What happened? Who did this to me?'”
The evidence suggests Fewer than 1% of transgender people who undergo gender reassignment surgery regret it.,it is Gender reassignment surgery is rare for people under the age of 18 (However, they may have been given puberty suppressants or hormones.)
Trump continued his discussion of transgender women in sports, highlighting the controversy surrounding athletes Imane Khelif and Lin Yuting during the Olympics, noting that both are cisgender women who received severe transphobic abuse online.
“People are afraid to talk about it. I don’t know how they can get away with it. When I saw these boxer shorts coming out I thought it was so ridiculous. It’s an insult to women. Women are working so hard to set records but these records were set by transgender people and they will not be broken by women,” he continued.
Trump previously said he would roll back President Biden’s policies on gender-affirming care and end all programs that “promote the concepts of sex and gender transition at any age.”
He again railed against illegal immigration, drawing loud applause from the Moms for Liberty crowd, claiming that “immigrants are harming your schools and your children.”
“Our country is being poisoned,” Trump said, adding that school boards across the country have “become like dictatorships” that are hostile to parental rights.
He also supported the book ban and praised the “fantastic” work of Moms for Liberty, which has said it plans to spend $3 million in battleground states ahead of the election, in opposition to references to LGBTQ+ identities and racism in schools.
The group also supports Project 2025, a conservative platform for the next Republican president that would expand presidential powers and impose a conservative vision on the country.
Trump Distancing himself from Project 2025 But it maintains strong ties to Mothers for Liberty, which in 2023 was classified as an “extremist” and “anti-government” group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
