The UK Dolly Parton-themed musical tour had to be suspended mid-show during a performance after audiences fussed over the gay characters.
According to Steve Webb, one of the stars I’ll come here againthe performance at the Opera House in Manchester, England had to be stopped after women began screaming on stage.
The woman was kicked out of the building.
Talk about the incident in Tiktok postWebb noted that a similar incident occurred in another performance when members of the audience threw anti-gay slur at the stage and urged removal.
Webb said the fact that performers encountered such intolerance from British audiences is eye-opening.

“The number of audiences we had to kick out of the show is insane,” Webb said. “It happens almost every week, and it blows my mind.”
Webb, who portrays the gay comedian and Parton’s fan Kevin on the show, said during the London run of the musical, a member of an audience began screaming homophobic slur on stage.
“He seemed to be: “I’m not here to see Basgot’s story about his boyfriend. I just want to see Dolly Parton,” Webb recalls. “It’s ‘It’s Dolly Parton Musical, a mate. It’s obviously going to be a bit gay.”

“We’re in this industry in this bubble,” Webb added. “But we’re traveling around the country and seeing literally how many people can’t stand to see the gay people portrayed on stage – it’s wild.”
I’ll come here again Dolly Parton’s fantasy version tells the story of a stubborn fan who has overcome the “time of trials.” It features some of the superstar’s most popular songs, including “Jolene,” “Islands in the Stream,” and “9 vs. 5.”
Parton has been a gay icon for a long time. She positions herself as an ally of the LGBTQ community, a Pro-LGBTQ philanthropist, and expresses her support for marriage equality.
Just like the US, the UK is experiencing a backlash against LGBTQ visibility, part of the world’s conservatives Shifts towards diverse identities.
