The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating assaults in Logan Circle. There, the man is said to have threatened violence against passersby, which could have been a hate crime.
The incident occurred around 10:30am on September 15th and on the 14th and at R Streets NW. Police say the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Marshall Baxter, jumped into the victim — a neighbor — clenched and shaking his fist, missing them narrowly.
According to a press release from MPD, Baxter, who had not fixed his address, allegedly yelled a homophobic slur at his victim.
Officers arrested Baxter, who was charged with one count of simple attacks due to increased bias. In other words, police believe the attack was motivated by anti-LGBTQ animus.
The lawsuit is under investigation, and MPD, along with the special liaison branch of the department, pursues it as a crime of potential bias motives.
It is unclear whether the District of Columbia’s US law firm will pursue strengthening bias. Historically, district prosecutors have argued that, except in extreme cases, are reluctant to bring about accusations of hate crimes, often more difficult. Prove Court intent.
