Latinx Pride begins on May 16th with a schedule of vibrant, community-centric events that celebrate strange Latin identity through art, movement, history and joy. From dance performances and spiritual gatherings to film screenings and late-night parties, this year’s programming invites LGBTQ Latinx people and allies to connect, heal and celebrate in Washington, DC.
On May 16th and 17th, Latinx Pride begins with Amor, Drool Y Sabor, a dance event that is part of the Latinx Athletic Festival. All Latino cast in colour, from modern times to ballet folkloreco dances across genre boundaries, highlighting a unique Latino queer identity. The event will be available at Dance Loft on the 14th (4618 14th St., NW). Tickets will remain available.
At 11am on May 18th, La Sanación 1: Like Indigenous people, LGBTQ Latinx people invite them to connect with their ancestral roots by participating in guided spiritual practices and learning activities. The event is located at TBD, but will be published on the Latinx Pride website, close to the event.
On May 22nd, there will be the Latinx Professionals Networking Mixer at Kiki (915 U St NW) at 6pm, followed by a Latinx Pride kickoff reception with a ticket at 8pm.
La Sanación 2: The natural movement will take place on May 24th on the Potomac River and begin at Key Bridge Boathouse (3500 Water St NW). The community is invited to “inhale, grab a paddle and join the water for a healing day of kayak and connection.” Tickets are currently available.
From 10:30am on Sunday, May 25th, Latinx Pride celebrates faith and resilience at LA FE: Metropolitan Community Church (474 Ridge St NW) in Washington. RSVP is requested.
It’s Raffiesta on Thursday, May 29th. Everyone is invited to dance to a Latin hit at the Latin Pride Party at Bunker (2001 14th St NW)! The party starts at 9pm and tickets are required.
Noche de Jotería: The “Dance, Drugs, Joteria!” show begins at 8pm on Friday, May 30th at the Theater Alliance (340 Maple Dr SW) and tickets are required.
In a special collaboration with DC Public Library and Loyalty Bookstore, LOS Books Podcast will feature the afternoon Latino literature of Venessa Vida Kelley and Edgar Gomez, authors of podcast episodes, “Alligators, Marmens, Latin Queer Book Warm, Ohio!” RSVP is requested.
On May 31, after the WorldPride kickoff event (Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran Concert at Nationals Park (1500 South Capitol St se)), Everyone is invited to dance the night with a ticket at the AI Warehouse – Union Market (530 Penn St ne).
La Sanación 3: Wellness and Relaxation will be held at Dupont Circle at 9am on June 1st, inviting the Latin LGBTQ community to “relax and relax outdoors in stretching, dancing and Dupont Circle” amid the busy pride season.
On the evening of June 1st, the DC Latinx LGBTQ History Tour begins at 2pm at Adams Morgan Plaza (1800 Columbia Rd NW). Everyone is invited to learn about the history of Latinx LGBTQ in DC. RSVP is requested.
On June 2nd, at 6pm, Latinx femmes, masses, non-binary people, and CIS women will be invited to the Chicas & Femmes mixer to “connect, celebrate, and love freely.” The location is TBD, but tickets are currently available.
On Wednesday, June 4th, masculine members of the Latinx LGBTQ community will be invited to “suéltate” at the Papi Chulo mixer in District Eagle (1357b U St NW). Dance Spanish hits at Washington’s only Kink Bar. No tickets are required, but they are available.
On June 5th, the Queer LaTenx community is invited to dance the stress at Elmoso. The event location is TBD, but starts at 10pm and tickets will remain available.
On Friday, June 6th, the Latin Film Festival will begin at 4pm at the Festival Centre (1640 Columbia Rd NW). “Three Movies, One Nights, and Cultura, Comnidad, and a Celebration of Pride.” Tickets are required.
Libre Soy Night Party will be releasing “You’re free. Tickets are available now” on June 6th on Bunker (2001 14th St., NW).
Jotería: Our Untold Stories begin at 8pm at the Kogod Theatre at Arena Stage (1101 6th St.). Join Queer Latinx performers and show what it means to be “brown, weird, and non-apology.” Tickets are still available.
Latinx Pride is a lesson from La Plática: La Plática: Losons from history at the Festival Centre (1640 Columbia Rd., NW) on June 19th. There, the community is invited to learn that their strange Latinx identity can “lead us to resist the power of hatred and construction together.” Tickets are required.
