British group fights for trans kids

Politicians and the media recently decided to talk about trans kids. How to “protect” a child you think is trans.

The problem with such conversation is that the voices of transgender children and teenagers are ignored. Their existence has been erased and denied. Transgender minors are often discriminated against by their “protective” name. And there are only a few resources and opportunities to speak up.

But it’s not the UK.

Despite the UK’s reputation for exporting transphobic ideas around the world, JK Rowling is partly promoted by the radical feminist movement, with the most visible representation of voices, the country has one of the most prominent youth-led initiatives there. Trans kids are more valuable.

Washington Blade I talked to their representatives and learned more about them and perhaps even learned something from them. After all, the fight for trans rights is global because trans kids are worth better.

blade: Could you please tell us a little about the group’s history?

“Trans Kids Better (TKDB) was founded by two trans kids in June 2024 after being led into action by two trans kids read on the news,” Ash said, referring to the situation by the UK National Health Bureau. I’ve begun to deny it Hormonal therapy for transgender minors, and conservative transphobic voices It’s become much more prominent In the media. “Our first action was the NHS England banner drop, then turned into a four-day occupation as more people joined. What began as a small action group among friends attracted many other trans kids, and eventually TKDB became a full-fledged action network made up of dozens of children from across the country.”

blade: In the group’s opinion, what are the main issues transminers face today in the UK?

ash: The biggest problem faced by trans kids in the UK comes from our constant neglect and scapegoats in both politics and everyday life. For example, we UK Health Secretary Wes Street ignored trans kids Adolescent blockers are life-saving medical care, and instead simply banned trans kids’ use of adolescent blockers. Too often, people pretend that we don’t exist. Or they use it as a means of deflection in trans people, especially in politics. Or we are portrayed as a threat. Both lead to alienation, creating a space where trans people can be laughed, harassed, exiled, taken seriously, and denied universal rights. We see what’s happening everywhere, from school spaces to governments. It is horrifying to be ignored as a villain by the very people who are supposed to keep you safe, and it cultivates an environment that is extremely dangerous for the physical and mental health of a trans child.

blade: Tell us a little about your most important protests and campaigns. Are they connected? What do you do to achieve your goals?

ash: Well, most of our actions are separated from each other, but there are also some ongoing campaigns. For example, our campaign The children are dying, Wes (kadw) It has been ongoing for over a year and aims to draw attention to Health Secretary Wes Street about his role in the ban on blockers during adolescents. We had a paper co-place outside our Wes Street office to represent the deaths of trans children caused by his actions. We recently ended this daily protest, but a year after the comments from Wes stopped – he blocked our page and Kadw on social media, so he can’t completely pretend we don’t exist. But there’s still something to come from Kadw! I’m also constantly coming up with new ideas for action.

blade: Do you think it’s important for LGBTQ adults to listen to trans kids?

ash: Because even LGBT+ adults who have their own experience and have made a significant contribution to behaviorism have no experience of being a trans child at this exact day and age. We have teens, trans and first-hand experiences, so we have a unique perspective on modern education, healthcare, politics and social media, especially when those topics relate to us. When advocating for trans kids, it is important to include real children in these conversations. No one knows what trans kids need more than trans kids.

blade: And what about the international meaning of social movements such as trans kids? Why is this European campaign important to Americans?

ash: Recently, Nigel Farage, leader of the Reformed British Party [a far-right political party that has gained more and more influence in the UK] And blatant TransformeI have it He said he wanted To “make Britain great again,” he named Donald Trump one of his political inspirations. This is an important example of the particularly highly coordinated British and American politics, as well as the rights of these countries and subsequent minorities. Because it is not to be seen as political to want the rights of trans people and other minorities. Transphobic rulings passed in one country can encourage leaders in another country to do the same. Prominent British figures, particularly local exclusive extremist feminists, are influential all over the world. JK Rowling in particular is actively using money to oppose trans rights. But more aggressively, thanks to social media and news, transactivism can encourage people from a totally different country to come up with their actions, give hope, or even encourage people to spend the day. We are all fighting the same battle.
