If you didn’t know, he was nominated for four Emmy Awards for his work. SNLthe show’s first openly and strange Asian cast member. He has been frank about his experience as a gay person, especially in his podcast. Rascalchuristahe recently revealed his experiences with conversion therapy.

In conversation at British Film Institute As part of this week’s London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, Bowen sat down to discuss everything evil I’ve been honest about the theme and importance of the film.

Bowen explained evil As a “political tragic” film, it refers to the other in Elphaba’s story due to her skin color. He then went on to point out that it was a surprise to see such commercial success given the film’s bigger message.

“It’s crazy evil He’s out in the world and is doing very well. All of these when it’s a story about racism and fascism. I’m like, ‘Oh, shit, yeah’,” he explained.

“It’s miraculous that it’s there,” he continued. “The only reason a wizard has power is because he causes problems for others.” The spoiler alert refers to revealing that the wizard is truly helpless and acts as a person of the dictator of Oz.

And Bowen is definitely not the only one in the film to point out the salience of racial themes. In an interview with Varietycostume designer Paul Tazewell described Elfaba as “a young woman alienated due to her skin color.” And when Cynthia Eribo was cast as Elfaba, fans quickly realised the importance of the characters played by black women, given the film’s message.

Cynthia herself has previously spoken about how she personally relates to Elphaba’s experiences of others. In an interview with Entertainment of the nightshe said, “I just know what it feels like to feel like you don’t fit in. Just as you’re outside of normal, there’s no room for you. I know what it feels like. I think I used Elfaba as this great opportunity to share that experience.
