Bigots are commenting on WNBA star Angel Reese’s body

In news that should surprise almost no one, bigots are making even more unsolicited comments about women’s bodies. They’re currently eyeing National Women’s Basketball Association star Angel Reese’s New Year’s Eve outfit.

On Dec. 31, the 22-year-old Chicago Sky player took to Instagram to share a photo of himself ahead of the celebration.

Looks incredible in floor-length leopard print, gown – Her appearance shouldn’t matter to others – Reese faced backlash for how her body looked in a cut-out dress.

Some commented that she should “stick to basketball,” believing in the idea that professional sportswomen also can’t dress up and have fun outside of their profession.

In response, the WNBA star appears to have deleted her social media accounts platform.

However, her supporters spoke out in defense of the basketball player. “Why are y’all mad at Angel Reese who looks so damn good? Lol,” one person commented on X (formerly Twitter).

“Angel Reese is bothering people because she doesn’t fit the typical tomboy-looking basketball player,” another person pointed out. “She literally does nothing but appear in the media and dress pretty like a normal woman her age.”

A third added: “She’s a gorgeous young girl just living her life. I hate that she deactivated her account because of other people’s insecurities.”

Unfortunately, Reese isn’t the only female athlete facing criticism based solely on her appearance. Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast of all time with 11 Olympic medals, hit back at critics who decided to differentiate her hairstyle at the 2024 Paris Olympics .

Outside the world of sports, far-right forces are using both actress Sydney Sweeney and last year’s Miss Universe winner to fuel the fight against “wokeness.” Rather than celebrating their accomplishments, bigots reduce their appearance to their physical appearance in order to comment on society’s ideals.

Being in the public eye doesn’t give anyone the right to comment on their body.
