He first spoke publicly about his gay identity in a 2014 interview with The Sunday Times.In a new interview The Sunday Times In an article published this week, the actor spoke about the years he spent in the public eye before coming out. “I think it’s up to each and every person to do what’s right for them,” he said. “For me, it’s better to come out.”“I’m definitely happier,” he said of his decision to go public, “because I remember it being a lot more stressful and unhappy when I hadn’t come out.”“So I’m thankful that it’s over and I’m thankful that we live in a world where it’s not something to be ashamed of.”Ben went on to explain that when he was beginning to rise to stardom in the early 2000s, “when I told other actors I was gay, I was implicitly told, or sometimes explicitly told, that it was no big deal.”“It was almost a stumbling block,” he said.“There weren’t that many ”There was nobody my age,” he continued, “but the gay people of my age came along at this weird post-AIDS time, and it had a knock-on effect.”“It doesn’t have to be anyone else’s business, but it’s probably better to be unashamed and happy with who you are.”You can read the full interview here here.
