Trans Canadian singer Belzlasen has been forced to cancel a US tour over the administration’s anti-transvisa rules.
Larsen canceled the tour following the Trump administration, which signed a law that required an ID to indicate gender as “either male or female” with an ID including a passport or visa. This requirement is already in place by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Go to InstagramLarsen confirmed that his tour will be cancelled, stating that he will no longer be able to apply for a visa that matches his gender, following the American Federation of Musicians.
The post added: “I’m a trance (and I have an M on my passport), so I can’t tour in the US to put it very obvious.
“In this sociopolitical climate, we hesitate to include “Now” or “Now” at the end of the previous sentence.
Larsen added that the “irony” of cancellation is coming just two weeks before his album’s release.
The singer was planning to tour in Boston, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco this spring, but refunds are now available to anyone who purchases tickets to his US show.
His Instagram announcement added that he was considering traveling with a Cisgender man, performing in “The Only Blue State” and proceeding with the tour by handing a visa and passport with a “M” marker to agents at the border. But “there was a growing number of disastrous stories, texts and updates,” he made him think, “through the translator,” and “it made everything even more complicated.”
He concluded, “There’s no way to move forward here.”
Comments based on Larsen’s post supported his way of doing things, sharing many people with the update being “devastating.”
“I’m so sorry, and as an American, it’s really embarrassing to me… I look forward to the day when America is safe for you again,” has read more than 670 comments.
Another reading: “Reading this will break my heart! You’re amazing. Thank you for sharing your story!”
Williams Institute UCLA’s law estimated that around 16,700 non-binary people used X-gender markers to request their passports each year. This accounts for 1.4% of the US non-binary population, and the institute estimates it is around 1.2 million adults in the country.
