I hate crimes against LGBTQLos Angeles County + communities rose 24% in one year, according to the first annual hate case report from the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations (LACCHR). In 2023, 821 hate crimes were reported in the county, with 40 of the 55 reporting gender-motivated crimes targeting transgender individuals.

Overall, half of bias crimes were motivated by race, ethnicity, or national origin, with 434 in 2023, an increase of 11%.

“Hate crimes are violations of state and federal law, and both hate crimes and hate cases are serious violations of international human rights standards,” said Robert Sowell, assistant executive director at Lactul. “The central goal of the Hate Crime Report and the Hate Crime Report are to raise awareness about these human rights violations.”
