When Day and Megan first met at Bumble, Fate had other plans. They were both visiting Washington at the time, but they had no chance to meet before returning to their California home. However, Destiny had not yet been done with them. When they finally met in person, they embarked on a five-day adventure through Mount Shasta and Lassen Volcanoes National Park. Beside the breathtaking waters of Lake Helen, Megan said the first thing she said on the day she knew she loved her and wanted to marry her. It makes sense for them to return to this meaningful place, exchange vows and make their commitments official.

A proposal at the sea

Megan took the lead when it ended up popping the question. During a cruise in Washington, Megan surprised the day with his heartfelt suggestions while sailing through the ocean they first “met” in Bumble. The moment was intimate, romantic and very special.

A ceremony rooted in nature

For their wedding, the couple embraced the beauty of the outdoors and chose to elopement iconic, spiritual and modern day at Lake Helen. Wanting to feel fully connected to the planet, they stood barefoot in the water as they exchanged personal vows. Writing their vows was one of the most emotional parts of the planning process. They don’t follow templates or guidelines and instead guide their minds. To mark the moment after saying “I will” my best friend rang out, sealing their promises in a deep, spiritual way.

Intentional and meaningful fashion

Megan and Day carefully chose their wedding outfits to reflect their personality and heritage. Embracing her feminine side, Megan has worn a stunning gown with a dream-fitting linen Jolly Bridal that allows her to move comfortably in a natural environment. Honoring her Native American heritage and personal style, Day chose a suit from Nordstrom, which incorporates feathers. “Feathers have always been a lucky symbol for me, so it was important to have something built into my clothes,” she says.

Color, flowers and a deep personal touch

The couple didn’t stick to the set’s colour scheme, but were naturally drawn to the shades of white and blue. The floral print was bright, colorful and full of life.

Private Celebrations with Heartfelt Letters

After their ceremony, the newlyweds share meals tailored to Monaghan’s cuisine, enjoying an intimate moment from the world. They ran through, but they found a way to include their loved ones who couldn’t be there. Friends and family wrote heartfelt letters. They read it personally after dinner. It was an emotional, deeply meaningful way to end their day, and it proved that love, whether it was close or far, does not know boundaries.

Words of wisdom for future LGBTQ+ brides, grooms, marriage

When asked about wedding planning advice, Megan and Day emphasized the importance of staying true to what they feel is right. “One of the most important things for couples planning a wedding is to stay true to what others want, not what others expect. Traditional things and others can do to you. It’s easy to get caught up in the noise of what you think you should do, but at the end of the day, your wedding is about celebrating your relationship.”
