Monday night when she learned she was under criminal investigation. Her sudden departure after just a few months on the job leaves Baltimore City once again without a leader in its health department. Endemic overdose deaths at a rate never seen before in a major American city.

The Baltimore inspector general’s office has launched an investigation into Emenuga’s work at a private clinic while he served as health commissioner, according to people familiar with the matter but not authorized to speak publicly. did. The Office of Inspector General has referred a criminal case to the Maryland State Attorney’s Office, which is currently investigating.

Emenuga’s clinical work was conducted at Chase Brexton, a nonprofit health care center founded in 1978 as a volunteer-run gay health clinic in the Mount Vernon area. Today, the clinic has locations throughout Maryland and sees approximately 40,000 patients annually, with a focus on serving the poor and underserved. A spokesperson for Chase Brexton did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday night.
