“When I was 17, I got to the point where I didn’t want to be involved anymore, and I did whatever I could to get out of it. People would always ask me, ‘Are you gay?’ and I’d say, ‘I don’t feel like anything,'” she says. “I was FaceTimed with my girlfriend, and “Born This Way” video, And I was like, ‘I want to put this on my Reel Story,’ because it was just my closest friends there.”
She continued, “I didn’t realize that no child actor had ever come out before. The president of the network called me and was like, ‘What are you going to tell the kids?’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?'” According to JoJo, the exec told her to “call all your retailers and tell them you’re not weird.”
“Everything has changed since I came out,” she asserted. “The way people communicate with me has changed. The way people work with me has changed. The way my work unfolds has changed. Everything has changed.”
When the story first broke, a Nickelodeon spokesperson said: The Hollywood Reporter“We are not aware of the incident JoJo is referring to, and she has not been removed from Nickelodeon. We have always admired and supported JoJo, and our partnership has included numerous collaborations, including a JoJo-themed Pride collection at a major national retailer. We continue to support her and wish her the best.”
