13 Celebrity Parents Who Support Their Trans and Nonbinary Kids

The past decade has been devastating for transgender and gender-expanding people in the United States. 2024 Human Rights Campaign Foundation One in 10 victims under the age of 21, nearly 400 trans and non-binary people have been killed. Amid rising anti-LGBTQ+ laws, public figures who support trans and non-binary children offer both visibility and hope.

This light in the darkness is the love and hope that parents can give to their children who may have difficulty finding their voice and identity. Advocating for trans and non-binary children, parents who are standing up change their lives and set the general public how we show up for those we love. It’s incredible to see Limelight’s parents showing unwavering love and compassion.

From the red carpet to social media, these 13 celebrities’ parents use the platform to demonstrate their children’s unwavering love and advocacy.

Marlon Weian

Comedian Marlon Wayans often talks about raising trance sun kai on interviews and on stage. He describes his journey as a transition from ignorance to acceptance. “As a parent, I just want my kids to be free… I want them to be free,” Wayans said. During Pride Month 2024, he responded in opposition to online hatred.

Sting shares his wife, Trudie Styler and non-binary child, Eliot Sumner. Elliot prefers to be identified as a musician rather than her gender. “We should treat everyone the same way. I don’t like being placed on certain things,” Sumner said in 2015. Sting consistently supports this approach, prioritizing identity over labels.

Cher is openly speaking about his early challenges in helping his son Chazbono move. “It took me a bit… but Chaz was very happy!” she said in 2020. Cher uses analogy to help other parents understand their experiences and emphasize empathy and unconditional support.

Annette Behning and Warren Beatty

Their eldest son, Stephen Ira, appeared as a trans man in 2012. Both parents praise his literary and creative talent. Beening called him “incredible” and Beatty described him as “revolutionary, genius and my hero.” Stephen’s work has been featured in Paris reviews, fences and other literary outlets.

Dwyane Wade and Gabriel Union Wade

Since their daughter Zaya Wade appeared in 2020, the couple has been vocal about LGBTQ+ supporters. “Zaya, you made me a better person by being the person you were born,” Wade said at the 2023 NAACP Image Awards. Union Wade said, “We love that we love all our children loudly. We don’t believe in existing embarrassment.”

Theron publicly supports trans girl Jackson, while protecting her from media scrutiny. “She looked at me when she was three and said, ‘I’m not a boy! So you’re going!” Daily Mail 2019. She emphasizes using the correct pronouns to let children share stories on their own terms.

Heather Dubrault

Heather Dubrow has three children in the LGBTQ+ community, highlighting open and ongoing conversations about identity. Her daughter Max is bisexual, Kat is lesbian, and her son Ace is transgender. Dubrow has published Ace’s name and pronoun to protect him from misunderstanding and demonstrate his commitment to advocacy and love.

Dubrow describes her upbringing style as creating a safe space where her children can freely express themselves. She focuses on providing tools to navigate the world while respecting their individuality, emphasizing that the challenges come from adults rather than from the children themselves.

Marcia Gay Harden

Harden, the mother of three strange children and a trans child, expressed her love in the 2023 drug, and the telethon was not dangerous. “What drives me is because it’s right and what’s going on is wrong… They tell me every day,” she said, celebrating the child’s identity.

Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber

Watts and Schreiber are supporters of the voices of the trans girl Kai. In December 2023, Watts celebrated her dynamic spirit by posting a birthday message calling Kai “my sweet little angel.” Schreiber shared the same message, highlighting Kai’s love and encouragement for his journey.

Jamie Lee Curtis

Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis is the proud mother of trans daughter Ruby and has become an advocate for the voices of trans rights. With 2023 trans visibility, she shared a heartfelt message Instagram: “Love is love. Mother’s love does not know judgment… My daughter and I are visible on this day of trance visibility.”

Curtis used her platform to oppose anti-trans laws and vowed to support not only her daughter but all trans children across the country. She hosted Ruby’s wedding in full cosplay, proving that her support comes with both passion and playfulness.

Lessons of Visibility and Love

While celebrity advocacy alone cannot resolve the wave of anti-LGBTQ+ bills, these parents provide examples of acceptance, love, and courage. They remind us that trans and non-binary children are not abstract issues, they are real life and families who perform daily acts of courage.
