What is a Schooner?

Schooner: A sailing ship with at least two masts. Most ships have three masts, which allows for greater speed on the water. The foremast is usually slightly shorter than the first or main mast. Schooners can have more than two masts, but most schooners only have two due to cost factors. The size of the caravan allows them to sail easily into the wind, resulting in a comfortable and efficient sailing experience. There are not many ships sailing today. There is a ship called the Liberty that is used for sailing vacations and parties. Schooner rigging is used on vessels for a variety of purposes. A fast hull has the ability to catch the windward side of the sail. In the past, they were used as pirate ships, privateers, and slave ships. During the Civil War, they were used as blockade runners heading to England and Cuba to retrieve supplies for the Union and Confederate armies. Due to their high speed on the water, some were used to smuggle opium from the early 1700s to the 1800s. I love my schooners!
