Shadows have fascinated astrologers, psychologists, and spiritual seekers for decades.

Originally derived from Carl Jung’s understanding of the mind, the term became intertwined with ideas such as: secret, traumain the astrological world, there are signs such as: Scorpio or like a planet Pluto.

But that’s not what a shadow is. – at least not in the way its father and first architect, Carl Jung, defined it.

secretmysterious and removed from view, but not a shadow.

… traumapushed into the unconscious for protection, but does not sit at the center of the shadow process.

…and Pluto’s underworldthere are no shadows at all. That can’t happen because without light, nothing can cast a shadow.

Unlike secrets, which are intentionally hidden from view, and unlike trauma, they are part of our inner world, often sensitive yet rooted in experience. the shadow is completely unknown to us.

We are not aware of our shadow.

When we say “the shadow” or “met my shadow,” what we are actually referring to is any realm we are facing, such as repressed spiritual matter, taboos, obsessions, or wounds. quasi-cognitive We are not in the shadow realm, although we can access it with effort.

The essence of shadows is that they are invisible to our consciousness. Once a shadow takes root in our consciousness, it is no longer a shadow at all.

so what teeth So what about the shadow?

From a psychological perspective, the shadow is the part of ourselves that we project outward when we are not yet able to consciously hold onto it.

The keyword here is almost synonymous with shadow. projection.

Projection can cause us to feel irritated, reflexive, critical, or even repulsive. that’s us I can’t stand it Even other people.

Shadows are also what we find attractive in others. We are irresistibly drawn to people who exude qualities we don’t yet have within ourselves.

Both our attraction and repulsion stem from the same source. The part of us that belongs to the Self but is outside of our conscious identity.

birth chart shadow

If we want to understand the shadow astrologically, we first want to focus on the dynamics of the chart that generates the projection: the descendants and the 7th house, the polarities, the oppositions, and the one opposition we all have in our charts, the lunar nodes.

on the other hand, 7th house It’s the gateway to the shadow, the whole Quadrant 3 of the chart Participates in the shadow development process. Shadowing is a process that unfolds through others, a process of feedback, mirroring, and course correction.

of social planet Jupiter and Saturn play a special role in shadow work. They shape our ability to interact with the world and get feedback.and converting our ego and latent personality traits and skills (symbolized by the personal planet) into an integrated ability to function.

Every planet has a shadow complex – from the Sun and Moon to Pluto – but if you want to understand the mechanisms of shadow formation and shadow integration, the social planets are the bridge that makes this possible.

opposition and polarity This is the core of shadow work. The opposite aspect is characteristic of projection and often manifests through relationships, where we see in others qualities that we deny in ourselves.

All signs and house axes are balance of opposites. For example, Aries and Libra explore the tension between independence and partnership, Taurus and Scorpio the tension between personal and shared resources, and so on.

of moon node Another objection we all have to charts. The node, which is itself a shadow point, explains how our identity evolves over time by integrating the natural resources of the South Node, inherited or instinctively developed, with the opportunities and stretching experiences represented by the North Node.
