I’m about to launch a new live cohort of secondary progression, one of my favorite timing techniques. To celebrate, I thought I had shared some examples of predictions in progression of the action.
If you want to know more about progress predictions, I’d love to meet you in the course!
Diana Gabaldon advances Venus, Mercury and creative output
I’ve always loved looking at charts of authors and other creatives and seeing what’s coming to the charts when they’re making some of their most famous products.
Diana Gabaldon is the author of the Outlander series. Gabaldon began writing her first novel, Outlander in 1988.
In 1989 she signed a three-book contract, with the first book published on June 1, 1991.
Immediately dive into her progression, there are couples who will grab my attention during this period.
From January to October 1989, Gabaldon’s advance Venus in Capricorn formed a square side to the birth Mars of Libra. This would help secure her publishing agreement, especially considering that it was for a three-book contract for the first time fiction author. And of course, it stimulates her passion for creative or more artistic projects. Before becoming a novelist, Gabaldon wrote in the science/technology field.
Furthermore, from August 1989 to March 1990, her ongoing mercury at Aquarius formed trines on the same birth Mars in Libra. Putting Mercury in the mix also makes sense for writing and other language-based activities.
Mars in Aries and aven
Is these activations on Mars related to writing, creativity, or what ultimately changed her career?
Gabaldon has an Aries MC, so Mars is her career ruling planet – it is A planet that informs and manages professional activities.
It is very common for the Midhaven ruling planet to see progress in advancing new dynamics about their careers. This includes other advanced planets where the MC-ruling planets ongoing aspects of the natal chart or interact with the MC-ruling planets, such as in Gabaldon’s situation.
With Venus and mercury progressing into the mix, creative pursuits are more focused on Gabaldon. It’s as if she directs her energy, drive, and passion (Natal Mars) towards the activity of both mercury and Venus’ nature. I have always loved the combination of mercury and Venus for all kinds of creative products.
Gabaldon quickly wrote his first three novels in a row. The second novel was mostly written when the first novel was published.
In fact, she published novels for three years, in 1991, 1992 and 1993. Since then, there has been a long gap between the publication of the series’ books.
Gabaldon’s birth Mars is particularly adapted to activation from Venus as he is in a signed Libra where Mars is ruled by Venus.
Of course, if you know the series, you can also see some of the symbolism of astrology. It’s mainly about the main couple and their relationship (Venus!), Claire and Jamie. There are many historical and historical events (Venus was in Capricorn), and there is a time travel component that will surely tear the ongoing mercury of Aquarius.
Furthermore, in February 1990, Gabaldon’s ongoing Venus moved her birth descendants. This is always an impressive and huge change. It’s when the ongoing planet exceeds the angle of birth. This is a powerful activation for that planet, as it becomes more angular and effective in charts and life, like the saturation of Venus themes that last for months.
As Venus is a useful planet, this may have helped her to boost her creative energy, make her more easily connected with kind or supportive people, and improve the various relationships, both personal and professional. I think this will also help with the pre-publishing process.
Prince Harry: I cut off the bond with Mars
For another type of example, turn to Prince Harry’s chart.
Harry and his wife Meghan split very publicly from their family in January 2020, leaving them a full-time royal family, eventually landing in California to pursue a life of freedom and autonomy.

From mid-December 2019 to mid-May 2021, Progressed Mars was combined with Harry’s Capricorn ascendant.
Mars is praised for Capricorn, but since Harry is a chart of the day, there are problematic or destructive elements on Mars. This can appear around what may contain the classical cutting or cutting energy of Mars.
Mars, which progresses in the Ascendant, not only stimulates courage and courage, it can also force action and make decisive choices. Mars can activate impatience, and ascendants can make your body and important energies agitate or unsettling.
I can imagine a client with similar progressions that might want to stand up or attack in the direction of their choice. It is understandable that autonomy and independence are important because Mars is so influential.
Closure and end in the ongoing lunar phase
It is also interesting to note that at the time, Harry was in the ongoing Balsamic (dark) Moon Phase.
Within the context of the ongoing Balsamic Moon phase, interpreting the ascendant’s advanced Mars further emphasizes the themes of retreat, worry, hibernation, and the need to boldly reject anything that doesn’t suit the identity they may be trying to create.
These are just a few short examples of the power of progression in action. Secondary progression was one of the first timing techniques I learned, and I always use it in my clients and students’ work today 30 years later.
See you in class if you want to learn how to predict with progress.
