Ketu Enters Magha: Releasing the Throne to Find Your Soul

Ketu (South Node) transits Leo, Magha Nakshatra 0°–13°20′ | Mean Node, Fixed Star / Lahiri | Chicago CDT

This week, Ketu, the South Node of the Moon, moves into Magha Nakshatra. Over the next eight months, we will all be swimming in some of the deepest karmic waters of the zodiac. Magha occupies the first 13 degrees and 20 minutes of Leo and is ruled by Ketu itself. This is, in a sense, Ketu coming home through its own nakshatra in the sign of the divine king.

When I say deep karmic waters, I mean it. This is not ground transportation.

What is Magha? Why is it important?

Magha in Leo carries the energy of royalty, heritage, ancestral lineage, and the weight of who we believe ourselves to be. It is connected to the throne, to the power we have accumulated, to the identity we have constructed, to pride in our past accomplishments. The symbol of this nakshatra is the king’s throne room itself. And Ketu, whose entire mission is to liberate us from what clings to us, now sits directly on that throne.

Ketu is the South Node and represents the accumulated wisdom and karmic residue of all our past lives. I have previously described Ketu as the sum of everything we have perfected through countless incarnations: our deep skills, instincts, and spiritual gifts. But it’s also our obsession with the past, our fear of moving forward, our tendency to rest in what’s comfortable and familiar rather than boldly embracing what this life is asking of us.

Magha adds a special flavor of identity and tradition. The questions that will be asked of each of us over the next eight months are:

Which throne are you refusing to step down from?

It may be a role you’ve held for decades. expert, provider, strong one, patriarch or patriarch. It could be an identity tied to your career, spiritual accomplishment, or family position. Pride in past accomplishments may subtly prevent us from taking the risk of becoming something new.

As I have explored deeply in my research on nodes, Ketu’s main lesson is that we must avoid repeating the mistakes of the past. Will we continue to act out the same royal drama and suffering, like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, or will we learn and do better this time?

The gift hidden in the challenge

I want you to hear this clearly: I am not a pessimistic person and there are real blessings woven into this passage.

Ketu represents the accumulation of past life gifts and talents that are naturally given to us. In Maga, those gifts may surface with surprising clarity. Leadership ability, creative talent, and natural authority that others respond to. Those born with significant Magha placements or Leo emphasis in their charts may find this period activating something ancient and powerful within them.

The challenge lies only in the accessories, not the gift itself.

Ketu in its own nakshatra also strengthens the spiritual power of the transit. This is an eight-month period for serious internal work. Ketu’s deepest purpose is to connect the conscious mind with the subconscious mind, unlocking mysteries and unleashing our spiritual quest. For those of us who are drawn to meditation, spiritual practices, and inner development, this period can greatly accelerate those efforts if we engage consciously rather than resisting them.

What you can experience

While Ketu is transiting Magha, be aware of the following themes occurring in your life.

  • Your identity begins to loosen, and the roles you have held firmly in place begin to change. This can be disorienting, even if you are ultimately healthy.
  • A pull towards the past, nostalgia or a desire to reconnect with lineage or ancestors.
  • Challenging the ego in situations that undermine one’s sense of status, authority, or recognition.
  • Increases spiritual receptivity, especially in meditation and contemplative practices.
  • A quiet but persistent feeling of “What on earth does this mean?” This is the existential question that Ketu specializes in.

None of this is a punishment. The planets are your teachers and Ketu in Magha is a very special kind of teacher. That is, a teacher who asks you to let go of your hand on the throne so that someone wiser can sit there.

Signs this mode of transport is most affected

Leo Rising: Ketu transits through the 1st house of identity, body and self. Invitations are personal and direct. Who are you under that role?

Aquarius Rising: Rahu will transit your 1st house from the opposite direction at the same time. The nodal axis runs through your identity and relationships all year long.

Scorpio rising: Leo rules your 10th house of career and public standing. Old professional identities may loosen or change during this period.

Taurus rising: Leo is the 4th house of homes and foundations. Ancestry and family patterns are ready to surface for review and release.

How to navigate this wisely

The core of Ketu’s treatment is spiritual practice and release of control. Here’s what I recommend:

  • Deepen your meditation practice. Ketu responds to a full-fledged inner turn. If you’ve been looking to establish a daily habit, this transit is asking you to do it now. Meditation is the most powerful remedy for calming Ketu’s restless and detached energy.
  • Let things fall apart gracefully. Ketu teaches us to adopt an “I don’t care” attitude, rather than lashing out when our plans are thwarted. It is not necessarily a loss that something falls. Sometimes it’s a release.
  • Stay interested in what you are still learning. Ketu can create ego pride in what we have mastered in the past. Approach the unknown territory of this incarnation with a sense of adventure rather than fear.
  • Please use your body consciously. One of the most underutilized tools of the Ketu transit is hatha yoga, which is practiced with an awareness of the specific planet involved. In my “Planets, Yoga, and Chakras” workshops, I map specific poses to each planetary concern. Grounding poses that calm ego energies and open the heart are especially valuable for Ketu transiting Leo. The body is a direct conduit for releasing karma and is often not reached through purely mental work.
  • Serve others. When we step out of our little self and give to others, our little self moves toward our larger self. Volunteering, mentoring, donating time and resources: These actions directly counter Magga’s ego-obsessed patterns.
  • Spend time in nature. Walk, reflect quietly, slow down. Ketu’s energy of detachment is sustained not by force or effort, but by stillness.

Remember: If we are consistent with our meditation and spiritual practices, we are more powerful than the planet. There is no need to be swept away by this trend. You can navigate.

If we understand the message, God will always take care of us.
