Many students are interested in various ancient and modern timing techniques.
One ancient astrological timing technique is called Zodiacal Release.
Zodiacal Releasing – often shortened to ZR – was written by Vettius Valens. He described this technique as “dispensation of chronocrattleship starting from fortune and daemons.” Although it was not a widely used technique, it was also briefly mentioned in Retorius.
The name of this technique by Valens is a bit long, but it explains what happens. Periods are distributed in various lengths starting with Lots of Fortune or Lots of Spirit (also known as daemons).
Timelord timing system
The Time Lord system, Zodiacal Release, identifies different Time Lords or guiding planets for different chapters or parts of time in your life.
Moreover, different houses and their associated influences become important in different chapters of life.
Today we’ll be looking at releases from Fortune using Julia Child’s chart as an example.
First, pay attention to the placement of your lucky signs and houses in your chart.
The initial release period will be associated with a unique period associated with your luck sign.
Once that time has elapsed, move on to the next constellation in the order of the zodiac signs.
The technique continues like this, moving from sign to sign at predetermined points. (More on these later.)
Understand release windows
Your experience with each release period is influenced by the nature of the sign, the topic, the angle, the quality of the house including the planets placed here, and the state and placement of the sign ruler wherever it is in the chart.
The influence of the bright stars Sun and Moon, the malefic planets Mars and Saturn, and the benefic planets Venus and Jupiter are taken into account.
It also takes into account the placement of the Spirit lot and whether the sign/location of release has anything to do with the luck of birth.
Although it can be very hierarchical, especially when it comes to making sense of this technique, the essence and basic mechanics of Zodiacal Release are simple. This technique moves across the chart sign by sign from a specific starting position.
How long is each Zodiacal release period?
There are four levels of release period. The longest release periods range from 8 to 30 years. These are known as Level 1 or L1 periods. This is what I’m going to show you today on Julia Child’s chart.
Level 1 zodiac release periods indicate longer chapters and periods of life.
Then there is the Level 2 or L2 period, which covers months ranging from 8 to 30 months. These are useful for regular practice to emphasize timelines of medium length.
Finally, there are level 3 and level 4 time periods, L3 and L4, which cover short periods of time, such as weeks or days, and can be used to view details or adjust timing.
Minor Years of the Planet and Zodiacal Release
When you maintain a level 1 period, the length of each sign or release period is tied to the minor year of the planet that rules the sign you are releasing.

If you are in a Gemini L1 release period, keep an eye on your ruling planet Mercury and its minor year to see how long it lasts. Mercury’s sub-year is 20 years, so the level 1 period in Gemini lasts 20 years.
Software programs such as Solar Fire and Astro-Seek.com can also calculate ZR periods.
Take Julia Child’s example.
I love using Julia Child’s chart for this technique. This is because it’s a great tool to show how and why her success, especially the cooking and food success for which she is best known, came later in life.
Julia Child’s 11th year of birth is good luck for Aries.th house.
Aries is ruled by Mars. The minor years of Mars are 15 years. The first level 1 from the child’s Fortune period is 15 years, which is the first 15 years of her life.
This period will be influenced by her 11 years.th By the house in which Fortune is located, and by Mars, the ruler of this age.
Around the age of 15, she moves into the next zodiac sign, the next level 1 period – Taurus, and is guided by Venus.
The minor age of Venus is 8 years, so from about 15 years old. Ages 15-23, she is in Taurus L1 during her Fortune phase. This is located in her natal 12th house.
Venus’ status in the fourth house of Virgo, along with Mercury and Mars, may help explain her experiences during this period.
It then moves on to the Gemini place, where the release lasts 20 years, then the lunar subyear 25 in Cancer gives a longer period, then moves into Leo, where the solar subyear 19 sets the timeline, and finally into Virgo, where the Mercury subyear sets the timeline again.

- Next L1 period: 8 years Venus in Taurus. May 29, 1927 – April 17, 1935
- 20 years, Mercury in Gemini. April 17, 1935 – January 2, 1955
- 25 years, Moon in Cancer. January 2, 1955 – August 24, 1979
- Leo Sun 19 years. August 24, 1979 – May 16, 1998
- Virgo Mercury 20 years. May 16, 1998 – (August December 2004)
As a tool for identifying different long parts and chapters of your life, Zodiacal Release is insightful and eye-opening.
Child gained popularity and success with his Mastering the Art of French Cooking book and television series from 1955 to 1979, during his Fortune and Level 1 cancer years.

A sign that fate has an angle
Signs/houses at an angle to Fortune can be particularly pronounced. This is the sign/house that forms a square or opposition to your natal fortune. Also worth noting is the sign/house in which Fortune is placed.
A sign/house at an angle to Fortune can be more active and potentially opportunistic than it first appears, especially if it is a trailing or subsequent house to the Ascendant.
If Fortune has such a corner, your home may be more attractive than you think.
For children with good fortune in Aries, the liberation that comes to another cardinal sign, namely Cancer, Libra, Capricorn, or Aries itself, activates the potential for good fortune from this angle.
Cancer is the fourth from Aries’ horoscope, and Cancer’s second house holds this horny activation.
(Also, ruler The Moon in Cancer is in Libra, making an angle to Fortune itself, adding further potential and energy to this period. )
Release to many spirit places
Another important interpretation part you need is related to the Lot of Spirits or Daemons. This lot speaks to your purpose, and it also has a lot to do with the type of work and endeavors you engage in.
The child has a lot of spirit in Cancer in the 2nd house.
When the Child, freed from Fortune, arrives in the second house of Cancer, two things happen.
Liberation from Fortune intersects with the possibilities of many spirits, but it may be by chance, and she has arrived at a sign that is angular to Fortune.
Two powerful boosts will be activated during Cancer Release, highlighting your timeline from ages 43 to 67. This is the period when Child truly makes his mark and connects with the job he always wanted to do.
During this period, Mastering the Art of French Cooking Vol 1 and 2 were published and her 1rench Chef Summer TV Special aired, becoming a regular series that lasted a total of seven years.
Final thoughts and summary
Of course, Child had a life and career before and after this timeline. Therefore, it is not that she did nothing when these influences were not active, but rather, it is noteworthy that during this period her efforts led to more pronounced and influential results.
Zodiacal Release is a guide to help you emphasize the more active and productive seasons of your life. Of course, you can also highlight more difficult times.

- Pay attention to the minor year of the planet that rules the sign to which Fortune belongs. That’s how long your first level 1 period lasts.

- Repeat until you reach the level 1 sign for your current age.
- Be careful if your level 1 period is in a sign at an angle to Fortune.
- Pay attention to if and when many Spirit Signs come during your level 1 period.
