As we get ready for fall, I thought it was time to revisit the oldies… In search of the perfect one autumn plus size coat It can get very overwhelming. Statement coats in particular are a hard trend for fall, so before you head out shopping, we thought we’d talk a little about the style, fit, and construction of these fall coats to help you with your shopping.

Besides, that’s what we’re here for, right?

Or, as you prepare your wardrobe for fall and winter, you may find that your wardrobe is in desperate need of a new, fun, new and functional toast coat.

We’ve created a handy guide to help you find the perfect winter coat. Now, I have to admit, I’m a coat hound.

I have at least one of each type of coat I’m going to show you. Who cares if I live in Southern California and the girls need to be prepared to travel?

You can find a coat according to your lifestyle, budget and preferences. Thanks to the advancement of plus size fashion and new segments. There are several categories of coats and some must-know tips that you should understand before shopping.

You need to know what you want and what your expectations are. yes.

Autumn plus size coat guide

Workmanship, quality, craftsmanship, and wear life all affect the price of a coat. Therefore, be aware of the differences when choosing the manufacture and style of your coat.

fit and fabric

fit

  • Proper fit is important when purchasing a winter coat. When buying a winter coat, keep the following tips in mind:
  • Wear layers, sweaters, and knits to ensure your jacket keeps you warm and fits comfortably.
  • The coat should feel comfortable across your back as you hug yourself with your arms crossed in front of you.
  • Button or zip your jacket. Please move around a little. Coats should have room around the chest, waist, and armholes (If you experience slight discomfort or pulling, please choose a size up). The main purpose is to protect you from bad weather. Do you like your coat but the size doesn’t fit? Ask for a size up or have it ordered in your size, or worst case scenario. please find another one.
  • Sleeve length is another factor. Ideally, the sleeves should be 1 inch longer than your wrist. This allows the coat to cover your arms when you are moving.

fabric

Depending on your level of warmth, comfort, and allergies, winter coat fabrics can be made from cotton blends, tweed, wool, fur, leather, suede, and more.

Depending on your lifestyle, budget and style, you’ll find great options all season long, depending on the coat fabric you like.

Notes:

  • When shopping, know that there is a difference between a $600 coat and a $100 coat.
  • There is a big difference in the feel of alpaca wool and wool blends.
  • Wool jackets are lined. Because most people’s skin (myself included) gets extremely itchy from wool.
  • Leather and suede must be pretreated to withstand the elements. (Please check again and again to be sure!)
  • Fur is usually kept in temperature-controlled storage and requires more maintenance, but fur provides the most warmth and style.
  • Faux fur is always a great style alternative, but even where fur provides the most warmth and style, technology offers blends and varying levels of warmth and style.

What is your style?

Now that we’ve covered the basics of fit and fabric, let’s move on to the fun part: style. With so many clothing options, inspiration, and fashion perspectives, where do you start?

Here are the general categories and some of my favorites.

I say: Let go of the idea that “I can’t wear this style or that style because it doesn’t apply anymore.”

There may be a certain style that works best for you, but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear one style over another… Find what suits you!

Leather, suede, fur (fake also available)

plus size leather jacketFashionable and functional plus-size leathers do exist, as evidenced by my extensive posts on plus-size leathers. Prices vary widely depending on the quality of the leather, the retailer, and the finish of the coat.

Always pre-treat your coat – especially if it’s suede or leather (if you haven’t done so already). This protects the coat’s lifespan in the closet or on the curve.

Fur has been transformed into a variety of cuts that plus size women can wear without adding bulk.

Real fur requires special maintenance. Consider temperature-controlled storage during the off-season. Faux fur would be a great alternative.

plus size puffer coat

Many plus-size women shy away from this style, thinking it only accentuates their curves, but you too can wear a puffer coat, as talented and curve-conscious designers make great coats.

Make sure the stitches create a waistline and the spacing between stitches is in a favorable position along the curve.

Whether it’s a vest or a coat, the coat should have a lining to prevent the down feathers from poking through or falling onto your clothes. Also, go for a length that hits the top of your waist for a casual look on a daily basis, or knee-length for a chic look.

pea coat and double-breasted coat

plus size pea coatFit is key here. The jacket must be able to close over the chest. It has to be! Choose a hip-length coat for casual, chic everyday wear, or a knee-length coat for a more sophisticated look.

Wool is often used in this shape as it provides both fit and functionality. Please look for it when shopping Reinforcement button.

If it flakes off now, it won’t hold up all season long. This usually indicates the level of wear and quality.

Put it down and walk away- or Ask for a discount.

Raincoats & trench coats

Look for the enhanced button. If it flakes off now, it won’t hold up all season long. This usually indicates the level of wear and quality. Just put it down and walk away. Or ask for a discount.

For finishing details, belt. Trench coats are great for creating a waist for just about anyone, but the defining detail is the belt.

The lining is also an important element for trenches and raincoats. The lining protects you from the elements and adds to the warmth of the coat. The removable lining is a huge plus!
