Today I’d like to share with you 5 of my favorite winter styling methods, and also touch on a few others that I love. I’ll also share some of my current favorite pieces to help bring these ensembles to life. But as I always say, fashion is meant to be enjoyed and a reflection of your personal style. 5 Favorite Winter Wear Ideas
As with any season, there are endless ways to mix and match closet staples. The whole goal in the winter is to feel confident and comfortable (i.e. not cold!). These are some of my favorite ways to achieve this goal.
1. Mini skirt + boots
First up is probably the cold weather combination I wear the most…a miniskirt and boots! This combination is an example of an easy, comfortable, yet chic winter look. And the great news is that these items can be worn for almost any occasion. Just change the styling!
For a casual take on this pairing, you can wear: Foldover Shaft Brown Boots Now pleated wool skirt and this classic cable knit sweater. I own this skirt and love it. Great price. I’ve worn it over a dozen times this season already! Want a slightly more dressy look? You can pair these with boots under $100 Now gray mini skirt and this peplum cardigan.

2. Monochrome winter clothing ideas
It’s no secret that I love a pop of color and I tend to incorporate this every season. However, during fall and winter, we find ourselves reaching for tans, browns, blacks, and grays much more often than at other times of the year. One of the popular neutral looks that comes to mind during winter is a combination of solid colors. Like everyone else, I love calming, neutral, tone-on-tone clothing during the cooler months. butI would be remiss if I didn’t share a reminder not to limit myself. It’s nice to add a pop of color once in a while!
This skirt outfit is an example of a really fun monochrome look with bold colors. On the other hand, this cozy outfit is an example of a neutral combination that is never boring. Pairing texture with oversized pieces adds a lot of charm and is a great way to create a tonal look.
Burgundy is the trending color right now, so if you’re going for a bold monochrome look, opt for a head-to-toe oxblood look. these metallic pants It would be great to use these velvet shoesthis crew neck sweaterthis wool coatand this tote bag(I own one in Raffia).
3. Blazer + cropped pants
When thinking of fall/winter outfit ideas, one of my fail-safe formulas is to pair cropped pants or jeans with a great blazer. I usually pair it with a turtleneck and fun flats or low pumps. I’ve worn this clothing combination an embarrassing number of times and it never disappoints. You can see some examples here, here, here, here, and here.
my favorite cropped pants these. I have 5 colors and they are all pretty worn out. Speaking of denim, Cropped MOTHER denim The style is my favorite!
And when it comes to blazers…I consider myself a bit of a fanatic. There are few outfits I dream of that don’t look chic with a great blazer. veronica beard It will always be one of my favorite blazer brands. the mirror I love classic style, but when it comes to winter style, this blazer and This one It’s at the top of my list. You can find more outfit ideas in my post on how to wear a blazer.
4. Matching set
Well, well, well…you never thought I could finish a styling post without sneaking in a matching set, right? Winter is the perfect time to wear coordinating looks layered with warm overcoats and cozy scarves. is. In this NYE outfit ideas post, I shared some of my favorites.
This look features my favorite sets that are perfect for winter. Colors, prints, and different textures are used to add interest. If you’re looking for a new set, check this out jacquard set(style is here), this dark flower set(styled here), and This animal print set. I just bought the last one at Tuckernuck so I’m going to style it with these classic riding boots (on sale) and these oversized gold earrings!
5. Fair Isle sweater + skirt
The Fair Isle sweater and skirt combination is the perfect way to blend coziness and femininity during the winter months. When creating this combination, I usually choose a midi skirt, as seen here and here. However, they can look just as chic as a mini (check out this ensemble for an example).
Good news for those who don’t like skirts. tons We’ve put together ideas for winter outfits that combine Fair Isle sweaters with a variety of bottoms. We highly recommend pairing these sweaters with plaid bottoms, as seen here. This is a great way to get into the festive spirit and add a little pattern mix to your look. However, if that feels a little too bold, you can always base your look on a neutral, like I did with this black pants outfit. When it comes to pattern combinations, I’ll admit I’m pretty picky about patterns and prints. That’s why finding a good Fair Isle sweater can be difficult. In my humble opinion, Bowden has the best option right now. i love this metallic fair isle This is what I styled at the beginning of this season colorful fair isleeasy to match with a variety of bottoms. Other works that recently caught my attention include: this baby blue number, This exaggerated Fair Isle and This super unique color combination.
Additional winter clothing ideas
These are my personal top 5 winter clothing staples, but needless to say, there are so many more! many More possibilities! Just in case one or two of the options above don’t really suit your vibe, I wanted to briefly mention a few other great options.
1. Pattern play
Wearing layers in cold weather does more than just keep you warm. There are also lots of great opportunities for pattern play. Personally, I wear stripes a lot and am always thinking of new ways to style them. Winter is the perfect time to combine stripes with other fun prints. For example, you can combine stripes with plaid or stripes with camouflage.
2. Oversized sweater + leggings
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: When it comes to styling, choosing the right proportions is essential. So when the temperatures drop and you reach for a cozy oversized sweater, be sure to pair it with a fitted bottom. There are lots of chic and easy winter outfit ideas you can make with a great sweater and well-fitting leggings or jeans. For example, this leather pants outfit from last year was one of my favorites. The combination of loose and fitted creates a very editorial feel.
3. Maxi dress + boots
Talk about the most comfortable outfits in the world! Pairing boots with a maxi or prairie dress is a great way to take advantage of a style that is often thought of as a warm-weather item. Don’t forget that you can also layer your dress for extra warmth. For example, you can layer a turtleneck underneath, a sweater on top, or hide leggings underneath. This outfit is just one of my favorite dress and boot combinations to wear.
winter clothing essentials
All of these winter clothing ideas look great, but don’t forget about the non-negotiable cold weather essentials in my closet. Last year, I shared a post with all my winter staples. Today, we’ll touch on these three takeaways and share some of our latest favorites in each category.
1. Durable boots
I love very high heeled boots, but they aren’t always the most practical for every winter situation. Therefore, I like to have a sturdy pair of boots on hand when I know I’m going to be doing a lot of walking or there might be a winter storm coming. These boots need to be flat enough to wear over long distances without tipping over. I bought this this year black riding bootsI can’t wait to wear it!
2. Winter hat
When temperatures really drop, you’ll need a hat and gloves. If you’re looking for a warm, practical, well-crafted style, I love this hat. However, I feel like it might be a little too casual for dressy attire. In such cases, choose this cashmere beanienow on sale! I like that it’s unbranded, not bulky, and has thin ribs.
3. Warm gloves
As I mentioned earlier, gloves are also a must in winter. My favorite style is definitely the cashmere lined leather glove. this pair This is the best value for money I’ve found. If leather isn’t your thing, J.Crew has a huge selection of knit gloves. This super soft pair and these metal gloves It doesn’t look cheap and gives you a festive feel!
