There’s no reason why we shouldn’t love Da’Vine Joy Randolph, right?

You might know her from her Tony-nominated role as psychic medium Oda Mae Brown in the 2012 Broadway production of “Ghost.” Maybe it was her breakout role as Lady Reid in the 2019 Eddie Murphy film “Dreamited” or her role as Rosaline in “Billie Holiday” in 2020. Or maybe it’s her role as Donna Williams in the Hulu comedy series “Only Murders in the Building” or her role as grieving cafeteria manager Mary Lamb in last year’s smash hit “The Holdovers.”

As a plus-size woman of color, Randolph’s road to success hasn’t been easy. She continues to courageously overcome adversity despite obstacles in an industry that often tries to silence marginalized people of larger sizes. The 38-year-old star brought us all to her feet with a standing ovation after winning “Best Supporting Actress” for “The Holdovers” at the 2024 Academy Awards.

“For a long time, I always wanted to be someone different, and now I realize … I just need to be myself,” the Philadelphia native said through tears. Acceptance speech“Thank you for seeing me. My sister is highly educated and even has a degree!

Randolph spent much of her youth preparing for the stage. Attending Interlochen Center Arts Camp and studying classical vocal performance and opera (later musical theater) at Temple University, she knew she was destined for global acclaim. After graduating from Temple, Randolph went on to study at the Yale School of Drama, graduating with a Master’s in Drama in 2011. She also studied Shakespeare at Oxford University.

She never fails when it comes to style.

Randolph is yet to miss an opportunity to make an appearance and stand out. Her fashion sense is impeccable and every look is flawless. In case you didn’t know, she has a dedicated glam team of about nine people who are responsible for her award-winning outfits.

In an interview with Variety, she told the publication that she likes to have fun with her style and that clothes are also a way for her to express herself. Randolph said, “You know why I love clothes so much? It’s because they connect to my personality and my sense of self. You don’t have to be as obsessed with clothes as I am, but I think clothes are also a good way to practice self-love.”

Her personal life is quite private.

You won’t know what she doesn’t show! And that’s certainly an admirable trait of Randolph! Despite living in an age where social media is the new diary, the Pennsylvania native hasn’t shared much about what goes on behind the scenes at Davajne. From what we know, she’s serious about her work, loves to stomp on people’s necks with her fashion choices, and is good at winning awards. That’s all for now.

When it comes to boos and babies, Randolph appears to be single, but that could be a mistake. The Hollywood beauty isn’t that active on the internet either, but that’s understandable since she’s always booked and busy.

As we all know, Randolph is a versatile performer. Before diving into the world of acting, her first love was singing. While accepting her Academy Award onstage, Randolph confessed that it was her mother who gave her the push she needed to achieve more.

“God is so good. I never planned on doing this as a career. I started out as a singer,” she told the crowd. “My mom told me, ‘Go to the drama club down the street. They’ll have something for you there.’ And I’m so grateful she did!”

In addition to ruining the Broadway show, RandolphMr. Peabody and Sherman ShowIn 2015, she released the official soundtrack for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Clearly, she’s no stranger to this, and she’s no stranger to this!

Despite all the accolades she receives, she remains humble.

Randolph has received numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, an AAFCA Award, an Astra Film Award, a Black Reel Award, a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award. But despite the significant achievements her work has brought, this passionate creator prides herself on remaining humble.

“Now I have trophies in my house, but I haven’t changed. You can’t change coming from Philadelphia. They won’t let you. This is who I am. The roles will be better, the money will be better, the lines will be better,” she explained. Variety As she said after winning her Oscar: “I want to create a legacy in this career, to leave a mark. I want my work to be meaningful and relatable to people of all shapes, sizes, skin colors, creeds and genders, but it will remain the same who I am and my soul.”
