I know that clothing trends tend to change at the speed of light, but I’ve always felt that shoes typically take a slower path. But styles that were once dismissed as “outdated” often suddenly make a comeback and become ubiquitous. As we quietly head into spring (apparently!), we’re seeing break-out ’90s shoe trends everywhere you look. Promising to add a sophisticated edge to your new season capsule? Thong heels.
The dressed-up sister of the understated flip-flop, the thong heel is a winner for spring 2026. Fashion’s chicest dresses, with their minimalist Y-straps, opt for a barely-there silhouette to add a subtle, pared-back finish to the look. The Spring/Summer 2026 runway was filled with exposed toe designs, both wedges and kitten heels.

From Christopher Esber’s brown croc kitten heels to Gucci’s eclectic fur iterations, designers dove headfirst into the trend. And unsurprisingly, the street style set isn’t far behind. From Hailey Bieber’s minimalist style (complete with polka dot capri leggings and a classic black top) to Kendall Jenner’s luxe leather platforms, we’re seeing thong sandals being paired with everything this season. Think billowing dresses, tiered skirts, and, of course, all the jeans iterations.

But don’t just take my word for it. The data backs it up. Searches for “thong heels” on Google are up 40% this month, and I predict this shoe trend will be everywhere by the time summer rolls around. Scroll down to shop my picks for the best pairs.
