Amid the abundance of black and grey clothing on the streets this fall, I’ve noticed an elegant color trend that’s not boring or predictable but is permeating the fashion world this season.
Neither burgundy nor purple, the plum color trend has emerged as the fresh color trend that fashion people are incorporating into all of their best outfits this fall.
As unpredictable as a splash of burgundy, the deep plum hue offers an equally elegant finish and the same styling versatility as other jewel tones. Having been splashed across my Instagram feed and infiltrating store shelves this month, this new color trend has already been embraced by fashion editors and influencers in September.
Plum is a naturally versatile colour – it’s neither particularly warm nor cool – and can be styled well with a wider range of shades than you might initially think.
This shade always looks chic when paired with black and cream, but this color trend also shines when paired with a broader palette: purples and reds bring out the depth of the hue, while dusty pinks and sage greens add dimension and brightness to the color.
Following its successful runway showing in February for the Fall/Winter 2024 collections, it’s no wonder the color is finding its way into the zeitgeist this season. Its appearances in collections by Fendi, Missoni, Tom Ford, and more, primarily styled head-to-toe or with black accents, attest to the color’s growing popularity.
This trend has been big this autumn and I’m already seeing it making its way onto the high street, with COS experimenting with neat tailoring in the shade and Zara introducing playful bubble skirts and flowy dresses in the popular hue.
Here are some plum trends that are sure to become your favorite shade this season.
