If you’re like us on the Who What Wear UK team, you might be devouring it too love story Right now. Carolyn Bessette Kennedy was undoubtedly one of the biggest style icons of the ’90s, and the opening of the show once again had us captivated by her impeccable taste. But as a beauty editor, I’m just as obsessed with her minimalist approach to beauty, from her minimalist makeup to her coveted ’90s blonde hair color. And if you’re wondering what she wore for perfume, you’re in luck.

Carolyn Bessette Kennedy was known for wearing a very simple Egyptian musk oil (which she purchased from a street vendor in New York) called Abdul Kareem Egyptian Musk Oil. Currently, production has been discontinued and it is extremely difficult to obtain. But what many people don’t know is that her close friend, fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez (who also designed her wedding dress), actually created a scent inspired by CBK herself. After all, narciso rodriguez for her (£54) was actually made for her.

For those of you who don’t know about the iconic Narciso Rodriguez For Her fragrance, allow me to give you a quick introduction. This is a musk fragrance released in 2003. This has been one of my favorite perfumes for a long time (it was the first “adult” perfume I ever bought). But knowing that it was inspired by CBK deepened my appreciation for this timeless and elegant perfume.
This is a minimalist perfume and a true pioneer of skin fragrance for its time, long before it became an entire fragrance category. Musk plays a central role in eau de toilette (the eau de parfum, which comes in a pink bottle, arrived later and has a noticeably different scent profile). A base of earthy vetiver and patchouli blends creamy orange blossom and osmanthus for a woody, musky scent with a soft floral edge, gently sweetened with warm amber and smooth vanilla. Let’s be honest, the initial splash of blotting paper can be misleading. The real charm isn’t there. After a few hours when the scent settles and starts glowing from your skin, it becomes completely hypnotic and integrates with your skin chemistry, making it irresistibly addictive.

Wearing this instantly makes you feel wrapped up yet sophisticated. It’s like being wrapped in the finest luxurious cashmere. It has a gentle musky scent, like when you bury your nose in the jumper of someone you admire. Warm and subtly sensual, it never loses its elegance or timeless charm. It’s a scent you can wear anywhere. A sophisticated scent suitable for the office, yet perfect for a night out. It also has a soft, woody undertone that feels grounded and calming.
It lasts beautifully on the skin, especially for an eau de toilette, catching delicate marks throughout the day. A small amount of spray is enough and there is no need to reapply throughout the day. In fact, I often prefer it after a few hours, when the sound has settled down and developed into deeper notes. it stays great Knitwear also clings perfectly to polo necks and scarves, creating a soothing halo of musk and woods.
But what I like most is how seamlessly it blends into the skin. It will be slightly different depending on the person wearing it, making it beautiful and unique and unique to you. It’s never overwhelming. Instead, it leaves your skin naturally enchantingly scented, as if its soft charm is completely your own. I have a 100ml bottle and it will last for several years so I don’t have to worry about it running out anytime soon. Be prepared for people nearby to comment on how great it is, rather than on the scent itself. you odor.
Narciso Rodriguez has since released multiple variations of the scent (most notably Narciso Rodriguez Rose Noir, which went viral on TikTok a few years ago after a French woman shared it as her signature scent), but for me, you can’t go wrong with the original For Her.
