There cannot be denied that Simple Mills has become a major leader in the world of consumer packaged products (CPGs). The packaging is instantly recognised on any shelf. Simple Mills, dedicated to creating gluten-free, grain-free, old, non-GMO products, has become a go-to for health-conscious consumers who are looking for convenient and healthy options without sacrificing taste. At the helm of the brand is Catelyn Smith, founder and CEO of Simple Mills.
Like many entrepreneurs’ concepts, the idea of a simple mill came from frustration. Refreshing from her early career as a strategy and operational consultant, Smith was immersed in long hours, constant travel, and heavy meals of eating with processed foods that kept her constant draining and feeling unwell. In search of change, she adopted the paleophyte diet, highlighting the whole nutrient-rich ingredients. However, the market was short because the store shelves lacked attractive, ready-made alternatives that matched her new way of eating. Annoyed but inspired, Smith turned his eyes to his Atlanta kitchen, trying out the recipes using almond flour, coconut sugar and other clean staples.

After months of trial and error, she reached her first breakthrough – clever ratios, taste tests, baking batches after batches: the almond flour muffin mix was easy to prepare and attractively good. With a bold move, she chilled local Whole Foods and asked about the shelves space. To his surprise, Smith was invited to the meeting. She quickly won the team, armed with fresh muffins baked from the mix. The chain agreed to stock her products, marking the official launch of a simple factory, sparking its rapid rise.
Smith decided to scale beyond a single item and recognized the need for formal business insight. She returned to school and enrolled in courses on accounting, entrepreneurial sales and other essentials. This knowledge proved to be invaluable as she secured the funds she needed to pitch to investors and diversify her lineup. From muffins, the brand expanded to snack and baking essentials. All of these are rooted in the philosophy of actual food.
Today, Simple Mills products adorn the shelves of more than 30,000 stores nationwide, from major retailers to independent grocery stores. The company’s commitment to quality and innovation resonates with millions of people, driving explosive growth. With its best results, Simple Mills has been acquired by the incredible $795 million food production giant flower Foods, the biggest outlet in recent CPG history.
