At first glance, I felt that the street style scene from New York Fashion Week this September was clearly familiar with the painted denim, directional accessories and sharp tailoring. But if you look a little closer, you will notice subtle styling shifts that indicate where trends are heading. One of the most important things? A large, box-shaped, double belly blazer trade for a sophisticated, more refined counterpart: single-breasted blazer.
Stroking the streets of New York, I realized that actor Aubrey Plaza and model Rosie Huntington Whiteley had swapped a once-unnegotiable boxy blazer for a chic, seasonal upgrade. Plaza, chooses a repetition of shiny leather, her style with deep indigo jeans and tall patent boots. The long-distance collarless cut was neatly tapped into two of the other two outerwear trends of autumn, but the jet black leather bag rounded out her look, especially with a refined edge.

Huntington Whiteley styled her supple satin-style blazer over a thin chiffon blouse, paired with jeans and a refined black clutch. Creates a folded, refined look that feels refreshing and impossible for Fashion Week.
Where boxy blazers brought volume and drama, these new single-breasted style channels have been accurate, Polish, refined 90s air. With a neat silhouette, button fasteners and colorless design, they play directly with the sharp, minimalist mood that has this season’s moment.

What part of me? This is one of the easiest trends to weave into your wardrobe. Its timeless cut and simple silhouette means that it is worn well with denim, as Plaza and Huntington Whiteley can prove, but looks just like tailored pants and pencil skirts.
