It can sometimes feel like the fashion industry is focused on creating clever marketing campaigns rather than creating high-quality clothing for a diverse range of bodies. It’s annoying reality that brand messaging means “good jeans”, alias Good genes, Made and linked to certain narrow beauty standards (we’re looking at you, Sydney Sweeney and American Eagle). This type of messaging not only alienates the majority of consumers, but also perpetuates the harmful idea that the body, outside of its idealized image, somehow perpetuates the harmful idea that “bad.” The focus is always on celebrating the design of all body types, true diversity, providing a fit that everyone feels confident and visible, rather than a few selected. When a brand prioritizes authentic inclusivity over catchy catchphrases, that’s when it really gains consumer trust.
However, shopping can only relieve anxiety and instill confidence, and by equipping the right tools, you can feel confident in your own shape of shopping!

Everything you need to know about searching for Plus size denim
1. cut
Let’s start by talking about the different shapes of jeans. Overall, there are generally four or five styles with some variance depending on current trends.
The main types of cuts you can find plus size denim:
- Boot cut-This universal cut skims thighs and breaks the knee with a slight opening
- skinny– This trendy denim skims thighs and remains attached to the calves and ankles
- Wide legs– Often called trousers, this denim is attached to the waist and seat, and starts to burn at the top of the thighs and continues to burn all the time
- Flare Leg-This denim is usually very equipped on the thighs and burned significantly more than the bootcut.
- Straight legs– These jeans are cut straight through the legs from the waist to the hem. As trends emerge, this style can be seen in boyfriend jeans and relaxed jeans.
2. It’s rising
This refers to where the denim hits your waist. The length of the fabric from the crotch seam to the top of the waistband. Knowing the rise in denim will help you determine how the denim hits at the waist, your comfort level, stretch your legs and strengthen the rear.
- Nature rise– Regular Rise jeans sit between 9-11 inches. The waistband is sitting at the button or under the stomach.
- Low rise– There may be a change of about 8 inches, but it may change up and down by 1 inch. Expect these jeans to sit around 3 inches under the belly button.
- Ultra-low level– It can change from 7 inches below and lower from there, and lower from 3 inches above the crotch
- High Rising– Over 11 inches, these jeans traditionally cover the belly button
3. wash
Cleaning denim refers to the texture and color of jeans, affecting the appearance. In addition to completing the overall appearance, cleaning can affect the wear, manufacturing and lifespan of the denim.
4. Spandex and Lycra
The magic and ability to embrace curves of denim are both spandex and lycra blends. Using any of these will give your denim a stretch.
I know that:
- Optimal levels of spandex range from 1 to 4%
- 100% cotton denim takes less time to wear than stretch denim
- The higher the percentage of spandex or lycra, the more likely the denim will lose its shape
- Regular denim lasts a long time, as elastic fibers tend to break

- Turn them over. Mary continues to share how to wash them: “In cold water, turn them over with gentle detergent to maintain color. Do not use bleach. When touched with bleach, the indigo lightens.”
- Dry or air dry. “It is best to keep them air dry. Once it’s a little hard, you can soften it in the dryer for a few minutes. ”
