The annual marching season sees the resumption of political tensions between Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland. In the late 90s, the parade from Drumcree Parish Church through the Catholic region of Podown provided an important focus for conflict between the two communities. Margo Harkin gained access to two conflict parties to film this fascinating account of the Orange Order and the inhabitants of Garbagee Road, a small Catholic enclave on the Parade Route – an event that will become very important in building a change in the political realm. The film uncovered the deeply held beliefs of two polarized communities that result from the Drumcree crisis, and foreshadowed the future that could be faced in Northern Ireland if the vulnerable peace process continued to fade.
