A cool young crowd meandered down the sidewalk outside Espace Niemeyer, a former Communist Party headquarters repurposed as a futuristic venue with simple geodesic spheres adorning the lawn. Guests, mostly dressed in all black, sauntered into the spaceship-like space and toward the inner dome that lit the collection, surrounded by shimmering chrome tiles. Lithe models sauntered down the runway, most of them sporting barely-see-through lace bodysuits, dresses, and pants that boldly exposed their breasts or thongs.
Aimed at a more subdued and reflective crowd, de Javier offered jackets with pointed shoulders, dresses with puffy sleeves and long trains, and oversized coats that were serious fashion statements.
De Javier was named a protégé of Riccardo Tisci, whose touch can be seen in the angles and pointed shoulders of his carefully selected garments. As with the shark’s teeth, Tisci finds a focal object and fixates on it, weaving it into every collection to mark his domain.
Judging by the excited, overflowing crowds and expertly crafted looks, de Javier is definitely ready to take the fashion world by storm. What’s next for him? What do you think?
