From 1924, the story follows the intertwined lives of two Beijing opera performers, Chen Diyi (Leslie Chong) and Duan Xiaolou (Zhang Fengyi). Raised and trained in the strict and often brutal world of opera, the two develop fierce and complex bonds.
IFI Youth Panel: Pluto’s Breakfast

The IFI Youth Panel was selected this month Pluton’s breakfastdirected by Irish filmmaker Neil Jordan, adapted from a novel of the same name by Pat McCabe, starring young Chilean Murphy. The film follows Patricia, a trans woman trying to escape the social judgment of a small Irish town, and finds her birth mother in London and encounters violence and discrimination.
Bigger Picture: The Witch of Love

This month’s bigger picture choice comes from Lulit Lewis of Galpal Collective, featuring this dark, supernatural horror comedy by our feminist author-director, Anna Biller.
It is the story of a modern witch who creates potions in her apartment so that she can make them fall in love with her and serve with disastrous consequences.
