On Saturday night, the most stylish members of Hollywood’s elite descended on Los Angeles to attend the Academy Museum Gala, also known as the “West Coast Met Gala.” Kendall Jenner wore Schiaparelli Haute Couture, Ayo Edebiri wore Thom Browne Haute Couture, and Laura Harrier wore Ludovic de Saint-Sernin. These are just some of the highlights. Another sartorial masterclass was taught by Kaia Gerber, who attended the event wearing Alexander McQueen’s archival Givenchy from the designer’s fall 1997 haute couture collection. After the gala, the model kept up the good work, attending the Chateau Marmont afterparty in an LBD that could have easily been stolen from her mother, Cindy Crawford’s ’90s wardrobe.
Almost exactly 20 years ago, on Dec. 7, 1994, Crawford attended the 5th Annual Fire and Ice Bowl, a benefit benefit of the Revlon UCLA Women’s Cancer Center, in Century City. Like her daughter, the supermodel often relies on timeless colors and silhouettes, and rarely goes wrong. So exposed to the magic of trends, it’s no wonder she chose a sleeveless black dress with a sweetheart neckline similar to the one Gerber chose this weekend for the benefit. That’s not the point. She styled her look with a matching shawl, diamond cross pendant necklace, and tennis bracelet.
Like her mother, Gerber wore strappy black sandals, a black satin Judith Leiber clutch, and the same RW Fine Jewelry choker that adorned her neck at previous galas. We kept the party ensemble simple and timeless.
