From solo travel to global impact: Tiffany Hurd’s journey
Tiffany Heard’s story began with a simple passion to document her solo travel experiences online. But what started as a personal outlet turned into something much bigger.
“People started saying they wanted to travel with me,” she says. “We found there was a whole community of curious, like-minded travelers looking for safety, joy, and connection.”
And just like that, shades of africa Born. A platform where travel, culture and community intersect.
She also channeled her love of tradition and identity into her writing career, publishing a unique series of coloring and activity books that focus on the beauty of Africa and the heritage of HBCUs. “Writing allows us to inspire, teach, and preserve important stories,” she says.
Whether she’s leading group trips, posting content on TikTok and Instagram, or writing her next book, Tiffany Hurd is making sure we see ourselves in every corner of the world.
A day in the life of her: Business meets culture
Tiffany’s days are full, and she does so on purpose. Between editing travel footage, answering emails, and preparing for group trips to Ghana, Egypt, and Tanzania, she’s always on the go.
“I’m being authentic by sharing the real lessons and joy that comes from exploration, not just a highlight reel,” she says.
Whether she’s planning a podcast episode, uploading a reel, or speaking on stage, Tiffany leads with storytelling that puts creativity, strategy, and culture first. Hues of Africa is not just about travel, it’s also about belonging.

From first book to global platform
Publishing her first book during the pandemic was one of Tiffany’s biggest challenges and her proudest moment. She had no experience, no roadmap, no guide.
“I taught myself every step,” she says. “I had my doubts, but I kept learning, researching, and moving forward.”
result? Not one, but two books: “HBC shades” and “Shades of Africa: A Journey Between the Lines African Adult Coloring and Activity Book” A third project is currently underway. Each more powerful than the last.
Now, she brings that same resilience and resourcefulness to Hughes of Africa, showing audiences what is possible when you lead with passion and perseverance.
Why a representative is a real passport
Expression is at the core of Tiffany Heard’s mission.
“As a plus-size Black traveler, I rarely saw myself reflected in travel spaces,” she says. “It made certain places not feel like they were ‘meaningful’ to us. I wanted to change that. ”
through shades of africaTiffany Hurd creates critical visibility. From social media posts and YouTube videos to curated group experiences centered around Black joy, adventure, and history.
According to her, representation is about more than fitting into a frame. “it is, Affiliation. It’s about creating a space where people feel affirmed, welcomed and empowered. ”

Tiffany defines confidence as giving yourself full permission to live boldly and on your own terms.
“Every time I choose courage over fear, I prove I am capable,” she says. “Confidence is not the absence of doubt, but the choice to show up anyway.”
That energy fuels her leadership, whether she’s boarding a plane or stepping on stage. Through her African shades, she helps others find the same radiance.

Every time Tiffany documents her journey, she’s not just sharing content, she’s creating possibilities for others.
“People tell me they never thought travel was for them until they saw me do it,” she said. “That’s why I approach it with sincerity. If I can give even one person the opportunity to seize the opportunity, my job is done.”

She is drawn to parts that move together. There are also dresses, skirts, peplum tops, and travel-friendly fits like a tennis dress with built-in shorts. Whether on a walking tour or on stage for a keynote speech, her outfits are always functional, flattering, and bold.
“Don’t push yourself into trends that aren’t made for you,” she says. “Wear what you feel can’t stop”
What’s next for Tiffany Heard and Hughes of Africa?

Tiffany is currently writing a letter. third booka soulful exploration of love that transcends cultures. And her 2025 calendar is already filled with carefully selected group trips through shades of Africa. Ghana, Egypt, Tanzania.
“These trips build community, spark conversation, and help people see themselves in the world,” she says. “It’s not just a trip, it’s a transformation.”

No victory is complete without friends, family, or a new passport stamp.
“I love celebrating with my loved ones, but I also love traveling,” she says. “What better way to commemorate a milestone than by exploring a new culture and remembering why you do this work?”
