It’s no secret that trends are cyclical. When I started sharing online in 2010, stacked necklaces were all the rage. But by 2014, the trend had died out, and we all packed away our piles of jewelry. Fast forward to 2024, and stacked necklaces are back (right around the same time as the tennis skirt made a comeback!). However, styles today are a little less J.Crew bubble necklaces and more delicate stacked jewelry. So, don’t dig out your old jewelry yet.
Today I’m sharing my current favorite chains for stacking, some tips and tricks on how to stack necklaces, and some great outfit ideas to bring it all together.
Favorite stacked necklace style
The current trend in stackable necklaces is to layer delicate, minimalist pieces in interesting ways. I love to play around with unique proportions and shapes to come up with fun combinations. I also love mixing higher-end pieces with more affordable options, as there are so many great styles at all price points right now. Below are some stackable necklaces I’ve been loving lately:
Dorsey Necklace
Dorsey has quickly become my favorite jewelry store. Their lab-grown sapphires and other gemstones are high quality, the pieces are carefully crafted, and the prices are amazingly reasonable. The brand is very popular, which is why many of their products sell out quickly. My favorites are James Bezel Necklace And that Moss NecklaceThese two styles serve as my anchors when styling stacked necklaces, and they also look great as standalone statement pieces and everyday jewelry staples. Clemence Necklace I was also interested in this necklace. It’s very delicate and I love it. You can see the entire selection of Dorsey necklaces here here.
Patchari Necklace
Patchary is a brand I’ve been using for years and I love how they incorporate natural shapes and elements into each piece. gold plated pearl necklace this Alphabet pearl necklace It’s one of my most treasured items, and after being out of stock for over a year, it’s finally back in stock! Stacking Necklace Tips and Tricks
While there’s no right or wrong way to layer necklaces, I thought I’d share some of my personal tips and tricks that might help: Once you get the hang of it, you’ll soon find that even a simple t-shirt can be dressed up with the right jewelry combination.
- Let’s change the length. To add interest to stacked necklaces, choose necklaces of different lengths so they alternate and don’t look cluttered or messy.
- Let’s play with the ratios. Sometimes I like to layer my jewellery in a way that’s all the same density and size, but most of the time I like to pair very delicate necklaces with chunkier jewellery to create depth.
- Don’t be afraid to mix metals. I always mix metals, and I think using different combinations of finishes and stones makes it look more natural and authentic, rather than artificial and forced.
- Stack three or more layers. When I stack necklaces, I usually go for anywhere between four and seven. Personally, I never stack less than three. I also try to only have one standout necklace or anchor piece no matter how many necklaces I’m wearing, otherwise the look will be too cluttered.
What to wear with stacked necklaces
Now let’s talk about how to layer beautiful jewelry. The easiest way to style stacked necklaces is with a simple everyday outfit like a nice t-shirt and jeans. I also love pairing it with an oversized button-down shirt. This one, This oneor This oneand pair them with your favorite jeans. These styles have a more open neckline, which allows the stacked chains to stand out even more.
Another great outfit to pair these pieces with is a bandeau or strapless top – the open neckline of these styles makes the perfect canvas! Two of my current favorites. This one and This oneWide pants go well with both.
Finally, another way to style stacked necklaces is with a deep V-neck summer dress, which is something that has caught my eye recently. Printed maxi dressthis A crisp white mini dressand this simple dresses under $60.
