When a well-known philosopher coined the term “history repeats itself,” he probably didn’t mention the designer bag hanging from our side in 2025. But here we are discussing the revival of Fendi’s iconic and beloved mamma baguette28 years later, we’ve been doing rounds again on the shoulders of our favorite fashion people, resale sites, mood boards, and we’re continuing to watch it. Over the years, Mamma Baguette took many shapes and appeared in all prints, textures, silhouettes and shades.
Fashion insiders thought they’d seen it all. The bag has been reimagined the runway for Spring 2025 with a soft, contemporary iteration paying homage to the 100-year heritage of the gorgeous fashion house. The new Mamma Baguette maintains the DNA of the original bag with luxurious buttery soft nappa leather, drawstring closures and important underarm designs. Of course, Fendi didn’t skip the details, so we wouldn’t.

Whether you need a classic or seasonal bag to highlight your spring ensemble, Mamma Baguette will live in your home in your head. In this renewal, Fendi discarded bold prints and bold colors for a sophisticated, timeless color palette of pale greens, pinks and greys. And some styles have a bouquet motif of sequin or beaded Fendi flowers embroidered on the body completely by hand. And you can’t forget the black Python style that’s already sold out. Available in small, medium and large sizes, the Mamma Baguette is as functional as the stylish one. Don’t be fooled by the small size. It can still accommodate all your everyday essentials and you can carry it by hand or crossbody using an adjustable leather strap.

This isn’t who will wear the story without street style moments. Our peers are experts who find archive gems and make you feel the latest, so you don’t have to look too far to style your Inspo. As you can see, Fendi Baguette has transcended decades and rules regardless of trend cycle. And our favourite fictional curly New York City columnist and fashion icon deserves some credit for bringing her baguette collection to television screens in the 90s and 2000s. When the purple sequin bag debuted, I couldn’t help but wonder if this Y2K staple would stay alive. Fast forward 28 years, and it becomes a heirloom that will never get caught up in a mountain of donations. Trust us – even that boldest its its repetition will stand the test of time.

To truly understand the importance of this bag, you need to know the lore. Mamma Baguette (the brand’s famous baguette style “mother”) was born in the late 90s as a homage to Adele Casagrande Fendi, founder and patriarch of Fendi. This large version was designed to be worn on the shoulder by Silvia Venturini Fendi in 1997. Its rectangular shape, flap closure and FF logo buckle were key features, but its spacious and comfortable design sets it apart from other baguette bags. Baguettes of all sizes have been hitting the runway for the past decades and appear to continue dominating in the spring of 2025. But when people stop you to say they love your bag, don’t remember that it’s not just the bag. It’s a mamma baguette.
