I was watching. Sit down and observe interesting changes.
Changes in the Plus Size Industry
Since I started TCF and now, I’ve had some interesting changes and evolutions in the exciting plus size industry. But that’s also interesting to me.
But before I dig into it, let’s first preface this article. I worked in retail for 12 years before launching TCF at various roles and management levels. We also had an MBA in marketing, and in the meantime we focused on the plus-size market.
This information is important. Because when dealing with issues within our community, I approach it not just the neck aspect, but from a business and individual perspective, not without merit.
Now when I was sharing…
Plus Model Magazine, Mark Fast, Crystal Ren, CNN, V-Mag, Velvet Damour, fffweek, Besdit, Melissa McCarthy, Evans, Plus North, Good Morning America, British Plus Size Fashion Weekend, Christian Frasier, Big Lux, Kirby Girls, El Quebec, Vogue Italy
Here are some influential points over the past few years.
There are shifts, evolutions and slow changes in the plus-size fashion industry.
And from the appearance of things, I like where this is heading.
So why beware of changes in the plus size industry? Well, there are some important indicators that have intrigued me and hopefully calibrated me.
- Complete Numbers Fashion Week: Soon after the successful 5th Annual Full Figure Fashion Week, this allowed designers and brands to create collections in the same SCHEdour already presents the collection before Fall as straight fashion – as a collection. When FFFWeek first started a few years ago, this wasn’t the case.
- Plus Size Fashion Market: The mainstream media talk points have quickly shifted from delving into “obesity” and started focusing on other incredible numbers. Representing $1.6 billion in retail revenue and 67% of the apparel purchase population.
- Plus-size fashion supporters: Like mega fashion media darling Style on Wall Street Christiewould you like to invite retailers and designers about this money left at the table? Well, hello, thank you, wife.
- Media Planet: For USA Today’s plus size fashion inserts, you can’t forget the Media Planet.
- flat Huffington Post, EzebelXojane, and various other fabsites acknowledge and question the existence and state of plus-sized fashion!
- There are students who have addressed the plus size fit model and created a form to address the issue of FIT!
- And we have Business insider, This is shifting, change and The evolution of the plus size industry. Thanks to Margaret Bogenreif, for an amazing breakdown on this (and my inspiration for this post).
You cannot rule out magazines that pay attention to consumers. We have Marie Claire stylish, and Reebok is focusing on their printed publications. Lucky Magazine is dedicated to its presence online (Heyyy Margie!)
So, what does this mean? Why is this something to be aware of?
As I shared in my previous posts,
At the end of the day, it’s all dollars.
In this case of plus size fashion, $16 billion.
Does this mean poof? Will the plus size fashion be fixed? nooooo, and with big changes, it needs to happen slowly and steadily.
I wrote a letter published to the fashion community… I, along with other plus-size creators, influencers and social media magicians, expressed my stimulation, concerns and frustration about the state of plus-size fashion.
I’ve been watching the mainstream media and straight-sized designers with attention, but there are a few things and suggestions I have to make some major changes…
For the mainstream fashion industry:
- Please introduce me Plus Fashion Design Enters Design School. If you do not study or include her, how can you learn the complexity of the plus size format and her aesthetics?
- designer, Stop blindly sizing your patternsChoose a plus size fit model to help you ensure a proper fit. This only helps with sales and revenue. Perfect for any design, regardless of size.
- Please A study of plus-size shoppers. We are not monoliths. There are various styles, preferences and price sensitivity. We mirror straight-sized shoppers just like your current target audience. I’m attracted to the same item.
- Stop watering fashion So that they will ultimately reach us. If you have a straight-sized thigh-high slit, give it a high thigh slit on the plus. If the jacket has a construction, do not change the version to Ponten knit. The fit is complete.
For the Plus Size Fashion Community:
- They must be accountable to each other on many levels. If you want to take it seriously, you need to stream it. Designers, boutique owners, bloggers, models, online stores, magazines, all facets need to understand:
- There’s space for everyone
- There are people who do it for love, passion, full-time work, hobbies.
- With a wide range of options and opportunities, there are ways to go beyond being a model and become part of the community. We need more women and men to make business and infiltrate, learn, change from the inside out.
- Community is important. What we’ve done so far is highly praiseworthy and notable. As Margaret shared, “Instead of simply accepting that the fashion industry has refused to acknowledge this market. These key players created a community It’s about rewarding retailers who are passionate about serving plus-size shoppers while punishing shops that can’t withstand traditional consumer standards. ”
So there’s a lot of hope and excitement to be proud of. There are still ways to go, and there are still ways to change, but these are some indicators and observations that I have noticed that I will smile. Some reflections that make me think and think.
Keep up with what you’re doing for the plus-size fashion community! Knock down barriers, kick the door, use your voice to influence change…
They finally hear and listen.
And with this… I’ll continue writing.
