Fashion People Are Ditching Their T-Shirts For This Slightly More Elevated Staple

Don’t get me wrong, I love a simple white T-shirt. Clean, fresh, crisp: There are few things more satisfying than wearing a new, well-fitting white t-shirt. Even on Tom Ford’s list of must-haves for famous men, “plenty of crisp white cotton T-shirts” comes in at No. 10, right between a sense of humor, a classic tuxedo, and perfect teeth. That being said, I’ve noticed that new basic items are trending lately. And while it’s similar to a plain white T-shirt, it’s not the same.

I’m of course talking about the raglan shirt, like the cool little brother of the white T-shirt. Usually designed with a crew neckline and a white chest and three-quarter length sleeves with contrasting colors, it alludes to the style of a classic baseball top. We’ve seen multiple influencers embrace this trend recently, from Monique to Marilyn, but perhaps all of them C.O.S. The version I saw while touring. But all this hype started last fall when actress and ultimate cool girl Zoe Kravitz was seen wearing it with a sheer checked midi skirt and ballet flats. This wasn’t one of her most exciting costumes ever, but I’ve seen it referenced and copied many times since.

And, I’m not surprised at all, she’s the pinnacle of effortless cool. The best thing about this staple is that it’s as easy to wear as a white T-shirt, but with a bit more of a ’90s vibe, reminiscent of Kurt Cobain and California skater boys.
