LA based designer monaco colombia is one of the brands exhibiting at New York Fashion Week in September. What is the origin of the name? brand owner Daniel Oliver he said.My parents met and fell in love in Monaco. My father is also Colombian and Nigerian. This love child was created by taking the two best parts of me. “
Daniel’s love for fashion began in childhood. she says:I’ve always been very particular about what I want to wear. My grandmother couldn’t afford to buy me anything I liked, so I styled myself cute baggy ensembles and made something out of nothing. When I got my first apparel job in my early 20s, I was able to see how a garment factory was run. From there, I wanted to express my creativity and love for fabrics through design. “
She continues: “I have been in the apparel industry for 25 years and have worked for companies like True Religion, Seven Jeans, and BCBG to name a few. From production to fabric buyers to design. My earliest memories are It must be in my middle school yearbook, when a classmate wrote that I was the best dressed.
At the Bomb Fashion Show, you can expect a fusion of Monaco-Colombia’s signature baggy and classic styles. Oliver explains:We draw on timeless influences from Colombian and European culture.
