Do’s and don’ts when styling a cardigan
Don’t be afraid to layer up your sweaters! When it comes to layering a cardigan, the more knits there are, the better. I love wearing cardigan styles over crisp button-downs or t-shirts, but oversized styles look great over another sweater, too.
Please play with parts. As you can see in the costume above, I love playing with proportions, and this rule always holds true when it comes to Cardinal style. I love the long, chunky look of short minis and cropped cardigans layered over longer tops and paired with flared jeans.
Don’t play it safe. Cardigans are already a classic item, so I personally like to keep the styling unexpected and editorial. The more the better!
Experiment with closure styles. From fully unbuttoned to fully buttoned and everything in between, take your time and see what looks best. You can also play with belting using a wide belt or a standard belt. I tend to avoid super skinny belts unless the cardigan is fine gauge and super femme.
