Taylor remembers her as a woman of presence and discipline, someone who approached life with grace and strength.
One of Taylor’s first memories would later define the brand’s identity. “Every time she donned a white mink coat and matching hat, she transformed, standing tall and walking with purpose.”
The visual trace of confidence in movement became Althea Mink’s emotional foundation. Even her childhood upbringing helped shape her eyes. Being tasked with helping the church order suits from a catalog sparked an early interest in presentation and detail.
Taylor initially pursued music by taking singing, piano, and dance lessons, but fashion emerged early on as a leadership outlet. At just 10 years old, she created and directed a church fashion show, designing and styling the looks herself.
What others labeled as “bossy” revealed itself to be a creative direction and vision.
After her great-grandmother passed away in 2016, Taylor went through a season of grief that ultimately led her to redirect her purpose. “I realized I needed to create something meaningful, something that would give me back my sense of purpose and joy.“She began sewing consistently and eventually opened a store in a mall in Maryland, officially launching Althea Mink. With no formal training or business guidance, she faced significant growing pains, leading to the pivotal decision to move to Atlanta and rebuild from the ground up in 2020.” “We didn’t have all the answers, but we had faith and conviction that this movement was part of a larger purpose.”
Atlanta’s bold aesthetic matches her design philosophy. Althea Mink specializes in high-end couture inspired by international runway fashion and reimagined for women of all shapes and sizes. Taylor’s silhouettes are influenced by architecture and sculpture, emphasizing structure and stature. “I create garments that have structure and height – towering garments. ” She explains, emphasizing her approach to dimensions and shapes.
The Althea Mink woman acts purposefully in front of her. She is confident, ambitious, and unapologetically expressive. Taylor explains:Her presence attracts attention without saying anything. ” Clothes are not intended to create inner confidence, but to amplify it.
Financial constraints have been one of Taylor’s biggest challenges. Building an independent fashion house requires sustained capital for materials, labor and recognition. “They often invested in fabric with the hope that one sale would help fund their next piece. ” Over time, she learned to balance artistic integrity with commercial sustainability, finding a rhythm between haute couture and high-end ready-to-wear, typically available in prices between $400 and $2,000. Her intentions are clear. We need to be able to achieve luxury while maintaining craftsmanship and quality.
Elasticity is woven into the brand’s seams. Taylor spoke candidly about her personal struggles and how those experiences shaped her understanding of clothing as protection and expression. “Style is more than just appearance, it’s armor, identity, and empowerment.For her, clothing conveys strength before words are spoken.
Her upcoming spring/summer collection continues that story, drawing inspiration from global art and architecture to create immersive and evocative fashion moments. “Fashion should be about creating moments, memories and a sense of escapism.” she says, reinforcing her belief that clothing can enhance an experience.
