If you’ve ever experienced summer Tokyoyou know it’s not just hot – it’s A lot of moisture, Adhesiveand absolutely merciless. Something like weather that makes you question all your outfit choices in seconds you go outside. As someone who once lived in the Japanese capital, I would deter me from trying to visit my friends immediately from June to September. Certainly they’ll have a great time visiting Tokyo, but it’s too hot for anything.
As the summer travel season has peaked and half of my friends have decided not to pay attention to my advice, I am doing the following best for them: planning their outfits. After all, make sure that when you’re in Tokyo, Tokyo people do it! On my recent trip, I realized that I was (as is) watching people, and quickly realized that even in April, Japanese girls were really mastering the art of looking cool and easy to see, while managing the swelling heat. Their summer style is functional without sacrificing fashion, and frankly, I wanted to copy everything I saw. From refreshing silhouettes to trend-forward styles, they cracked the cords that survived Tokyo’s intense summer with flavour.
Whether you’re planning a trip or want to refresh your hot climate wardrobe, these are the five items that Tokyo’s most stylish women swear by. Yes, I’ve already added everything to my cart.
Refreshing Poplin Tops

Whether in East Asia or elsewhere, there’s nothing like a refreshing poplin top to get through the humid summer. The classic style, often worn in miniskirts made from flared jeans or simple chiffon, is a staple food among Japanese fashion crowds, as models, influencers and actors leaned against a simple, all-white cotton style and looked effortlessly elegant.
Tailored Bermuda Shorts

While Japanese people often don’t wear shorts (Tokyo people often prefer miniskirts and baggy pants), the rise in trimmed tailored Bermuda shorts is worn by stylists I follow in the Japanese capital and from my personal first-hand experiences I visit every year. They’re a little more refined than denim shorts, making them the perfect option for most dressed up Tokyo people.
Lacy slip skirt

As mentioned before, miniskirts are a go-to bottom choice for most IT girls in the city. Just like in Paris and New York, lace trim slip skirts catch. Rayseatrim has added fun, romantic and trendy classics in the street-style star and model book that lives in Aoyama and Daikanyama.
Sweaty T-shirt

If you’ve never been to Tokyo the previous summer, prepare to sweat. Humidity is no joke. Worn a simple T-shirt usually works perfectly everywhere, but Japanese brand Uniqlo has developed the beloved line of summer summer essentials that everyone who stays in Tokyo during summer humidity swears.
Statement satin dress

In the summer heat, nights in Shibuya towns are always synonymous with adorable mini-slip dresses. The colorful prints and patterns are the favorites of the cool, crazy joji and shimokitsuzawa crowds, and are often accessorized with sandals, mini bags and claw clips.
