Hit & Miss: Who nailed it, who tried it

As someone who lives for fashion and as a good theme – Met Gala 2025 delivery. This year’s Superfine: Tailing Black Style, screams, screenshots and side ings were the best way to look. From precision tailoring to over-the-top gram, the red carpet felt like a runway remix of history, heritage and pure fashion bravery. Honestly, narrowing it down to my top 3 favorite looks makes the boundaries feel cruel (like asking you to choose your favorite shapewear brand – it’s not possible). But after a lot of internal discussions, some rewatches, and group chat voting… here it is!

hit:

Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill’s 2025 Met Gala debut was nothing more than a fashion sermon. It is draped with a Custom butter yellow suit By Ghanaian designer Jude Donto, she embodied the essence of her evening theme, “Superfin: Tailing Black Style,” with a stately, innovative look. Her beauty choice – bright blue eyeshadow and deep purple lipstick gave the ensemble a bold finish. The appearance of this unusual red carpet was a strong reminder of Laurin Hill’s lasting influence in both music and fashion.

As she rose the Met stairs, the overcoat revealed a detached, disassembled sport coat and skirt, seamlessly blending redhead crepes and black and white pinstripes. ah!

Miss:

Now, let’s talk about some things Miss Because from the 2025 Met Gala, the theme “Superfin: Black Style Tailing” was ready for us all to see an iconic moment, but not everyone wins the mark. Some celebrities have really missed the perfect opportunity to showcase black dandyism and the powerful history behind it. So don’t get me wrong, their outfits were cool in their own way, but they didn’t really hit the sharp tailoring, rich heritage and sweet spots of storytelling that the theme relied on. Some stars seemed more interested in creating “fashion statements” than actually paying homage to the culture and style of this year. It’s all that tiny line between wearing a beautiful look and then owning a theme.

Superfine was very necessary!

This year’s Met Gala has proven to celebrate the history of black style Must do Include all black bodies. In particular, it has been maintained as a fashion ties for a long time. The rise of plus-size participants made it impossible to ignore the appeal, structure and high design that everyone belongs to.

And let’s be real. If you’re not creating fashion that celebrates all bodies, then you’re not really making fashion. You’re just making clothes.
