As I have shown in my clothing color combination guide and many of my daily outfits, I am clearly the biggest colour lover. One of my favorite parts of any change season is deciding which shades you want to add or expand into your wardrobe. Recently I’ve been keeping autumn fashion in mind. If you’re wondering about the best colours to wear this fall, you’re in the right place.
This season, I always reach for classics – the Deep Browns, the cute tan, the timeless navy, autumn olives, and of course black. But I like to have fun by adding “pop” colors (or two!). There’s nothing more exciting than thinking about a new (or new) shade I want to try. Today I share the most exciting shades, mixing and matching tips, and easy ways to bring fresh colours to your fall wardrobe.
Top 5 colors to wear this fall
Let’s jump in and chat about my top 5 colors to wear this fall! These shades add to the classics. I love how timeless fall colors and neutrals always have a place in my fall color palette, whether I add a bold pop of colour or try the full monochromatic look. They create the perfect background and the right unique colors will be the final touch to make sure that any outfit feels fresh and up-to-date.
Robust orange and bright rust
I probably have all the colors of the rainbow in my wardrobe, but orange and purple are the fewest shades I have. That being said, I’m aware of the orange trends for fall 2025 – and I love it. It’s the perfect transition colour. It gives off a cozy autumn atmosphere, feeling bright and cheerful before a deeper, darker winter palette arrives.
This season I’m particularly drawn to the orange paired with Robin’s egg blue. I also love more tone combinations, such as orange and orange mustard and orange mustard. It’s a bold yet wearable choice that instantly adds personality to the colours of your autumn wardrobe.
Teal & Light Blues
As for cool tones, I’m all about deep, beautiful teal or brighter, happier light blue. These shades are perfectly paired with many colors to wear this fall. The red and red blue create a stunning combo, while the blue vision and teal create such a lovely match.
Over the years, I’ve collected quite a bit of teal jewelry. Many works you can find in Dorsey Jewelry posts. I’m particularly excited to experiment with adding those accents to my fall wardrobe.
Chartreuse
As shown in the Green Outfit Idea post, Chartreuse pop has been trending for a while. And its popularity continues to grow only in autumn 2025. The shades are lively yet moody, giving them the perfect autumn shade.
One of the reasons I love Chartreuse is that the different fabrics are versatile. From elegant silk to fluffy, cozy mohair, this shade is beautifully adaptable. I recently styled it with a dress and jacket look and playful printed outfit. And I can’t wait to continue to incorporate this shade into my future looks.
Maroon
Maroon, Oxblood, Burgundy (call you want) I’m particularly excited to incorporate the dark, deep red that’s become popular in 2025 into my wardrobe. This shade looks magical when paired with timeless tan and mocha brown, but looks amazing along with red and Chartreuse.
Honorable mention: Mustard Yellow
Yellow is a difficult shade to pull off, but once styled correctly it’s a very fun shade to wear. The deeper, richer yellow tones are especially great colours to wear this fall. These shades are more refined, with darker tones that allow for easy pairing with brown, tan and navy. Mustard Yellow can even add a college vibe to your preppy look. As you know, I love this season!
My favorite combination of colors to wear this fall
Now that we’ve explored some of my favorite autumn shades, let’s talk about combining these shades. The monochromatic look can give off the vibe of classic, old-fashioned style, but most of us don’t stick to just one color or neutral for every outfit. There are plenty of gorgeous fall shades, so adding a pop of colours and mixing up some complementary shades is fun. There are three color combinations that I’m most excited to try out this season.
Orange + Tan

The combination of orange and tongue feels like an autumn dream. This warm and attractive pairing makes the orange much easier. I especially love that the two warm shades play with each other and create a smooth transition between the colors. The colours aren’t that contrasting, so don’t be afraid to mix this duo with materials and textures to inspire even more interest in your look!
If you’re not interested in a monochromatic approach and want to take more risks, try a bright blue deep orange. Or, if you like the tone-on-tone look and want a little more heat, pair the orange with the red for a fun, unexpected twist.
Maroon + Teal
Next is a lively combo with maroon and blue-green heat! Compared to orange and tongue, this pairing is bold, but still feels upwards. Both tones are inherently refined, making them pop-coloured, but the exterior still feels elegant.
Want something a little more feminine to pair with the maroon? Try a soft, dusty pink for a delicate, chic twist!
Mustard Yellow + Navy

As I mentioned, I currently love everything that gives off a preppy, college vibe. Mustard yellow and navy are the perfect colours to wear this fall. When styling this pairing, I love adding a classic touch of gold (such as a gold button) to give the clothes a little extra dimensions.
Does it have a preppy look? Try pairing mustard yellow with olive green instead. This is another very autumnal, but wearable combination.
4 Easy Ways to Incorporate Autumn Colors into Your Clothes
Combining shades or adding a bold pop of colours can sometimes feel intimidating, but there are plenty of fun ways to do that! You can also add pops of colour to your favorite animal print outfit, add a unique twist with unexpected bold lipstick, or add a pair of colorful loafers to your favorite jeans and tees.
If you’re looking for some quick, easy, specific ways to bring color to your autumn wardrobe, we’ve shared four ideas below. They are all simple finishes, but these small additions can make a huge difference!
1. Add colorful accessories

There’s no easier way to add pop to your outfit than colorful accessories. My go-to is a lively bag, but it could also be a statement necklace, bold earrings, or even a wide belt. Don’t forget to wear a scarf, baseball hat or gloves, especially in autumn. What is one of my favorite ways to add colors with accessories? Chunky Bangle – Quickly make your outfit feel fun and there are plenty of colorful options!
2. Add colorful tights or socks

One of the cheapest, powerful, but powerful ways to add extra shades to your clothes is to have colorful tights or visible socks. you Really If you want to make a statement, you can even layer socks in contrasting shades or colorful tights at knee height. I also love the loafers and socks combo this fall. Paired with classic loafers, the fun and ruffled socks are an easy and playful way to try out the colours of your autumn wardrobe.
3. Play in layers

The more pieces you wear, the more you need to try out new colours for autumn, right? Simple layering options include experimenting with the tendency to wear a coat over the shoulder, tie a sweater around the neck, and layer two cardigans. When I lived in San Francisco, I inevitably became a layer expert. And to this day, experimenting with layers is one of my favorite ways to explore fall styling.
4. Don’t forget about beauty products

This option is not always the most obvious, but a colorful pop of beauty products can have a big impact on your outfit. These touches pack lots of punches with little investment. For example, you can paint your nails in fun autumn colors, or try out a bold new lipstick. Personally, I love orange lipstick right now. It feels like a great way to add color to my pre-fall or fall outfit!
