meanwhile Star Finder It was the biggest star of Paizo’s 2025 Gen Con Offerings, but that doesn’t mean it Pathfinder Both appeared empty-handed. With a new book, Battlecry! , New meta events, Hell’s crisis, I’m looking forward to AS Pathfinder 2e We are entering our sixth year. I chatted to learn more about these books and the amazing new Paizo partnerships Pathfinder John Compton, lead developer of the story.

Tell me a little about creating a book Battlecry! Is it completely focused on war?

One of the difficulties encountered at times in a large combat system is that it turns into a mini-game. Apparently he learned how to play Pathfinder And then all of a sudden you want to learn something else on the spot. And that was a bit difficult, at least with the first edition. It dropped some people. what Battlecry! It plays with something called the Skirmish system. This is what we’re working on five flip grids instead of a large army. You are still using three action economy you are used to, in this case each player character is controlling one unit. So, with a huge set, it’s a huge flock of people. So, the way it flows can be shifted a bit, but it’s a square 20 x 20 feet from the start. You get five actions to divide between you and the army you command. You can say two actions, “I want to cast a spell,” “I want to order my army to move and carry me with them,” one action, and two action attacks with the army. You’ll need a little more mapped area, but you’ll end up using all the rules you already know. You don’t need to learn new media.

Is that something you need a map to be able to use it, or is it something you can do with just books or paper?

Of course, it helps to have a map with a grid. One thing I’m working on with some adventures dealing with skirmish encounters is that having an extra 50% space helps. Paizo has many flip mats, which are once again large or expanded flip mats. They are really perfect for the military and have room to pilot.

The big challenge when expanding your tabletop RPG is to get a fiddlery, as you said, but the investment of time will start to grow. It appears you worked to avoid it.

It gives you a little more time to play, as you have more to track. When I was doing some demos early on for internal playtests, I found out that encounters could be 50% longer. But what we found by creating an adventure for it is that you haven’t met all of the encounters. It’s like an interesting set that may have done several levels in the war campaign.

And you say, okay, army, you go and do this other thing. We sneak up behind the enemy line and unlock the drawbridge, yada, yada, yada. And they come through the main courtyard and you’re like a skirmish to end the campaign.

When playing RPGs, you sometimes want to have something bigger, so it’s nice to see it covered in Pathfinder. It’s a bit underserved and often difficult to put in as a GM.

Another thing I really like about skirmish encounters is that there is something called skirmish bonds. These are basically the methods. Well, I played with my army for a while and taught me some of the things I know. If I’m cheating and the campaign says I’m getting a group of paladins, I can look at them and scream, why can’t you sneak? Now, as long as you are a stealth expert for Ammush tactics, you can now choose skirmish bonds. And now they’re using stealth, and their abilities are hard to avoid if they attack inappropriate targets. You can give your army a bit of flavor of your class or your own personality, whatever it is. So, whatever we want, we can apply ambush tactics to the Paladin squad, a flock of harpies.

The big news came out last year The Immortal War Event, we’re watching this year Hell’s crisis. Please tell me a little about what’s going on there and where you’re starting.

For years, people who know our environment have seen us and said, Wow, Andran, Cheriax hates each other. Why aren’t they doing anything? It’s just a guerrilla warfare. Well, we are finally having a hot war between them, of course, what can I do in the meantime, as the neighboring areas are looking with interest and they are fighting. You will notice that it not only enters Cheliax, but expands far beyond that. Hellfire Crisis covers this event.

There are different ways to get involved in it in case you want to weave into some of your ongoing campaigns. If you want to play existing or new campaigns, you can take it all up like an adventure path to explore. There are various hooks bound to the hellish crisis. Let me turn it into my own brew adventure.

So this is another kind of setting shift. The Immortal Warcorrect? Where do I change some of the board?

In other words, The Immortal War There was some sort of tidy shift, with little Gorham nuggets falling everywhere. On the other hand, this means that we have an epicenter southwest of Abystan. It’s a little more contained, but this is still an event and perhaps we’re changing a bit of a map. Maybe the XYZ character has been killed, that’s not yet seen. But you’re right to draw it all in parallel. The approach is very similar.

What’s the big hook for players who might want to get involved or choose a side after a long time in that Cold War?

One adventure pass we announced that we tie this together, or at least what we announced at the time, is called “Hellbreakers.” “Hellbreakers” are nine adventure passes that are primarily performed at isger. Therefore, this group leading this independence movement is working with that group. You’re doing some cool things.

Is this a war that we can choose sides?

It is one of the most complicated things on the adventure path. I remember when we were doing it War for the Crown. That was our adventure path with the inheritance of the Tardore. One of the pies of the sky’s ideas was a man, what if you could choose the person you’re back? But then we realized how much it would draw you in all sorts of different directions. So this isn’t the case this time. We envision a more heroic, bent, more anti-Kyriax. But despite being consistent with the ideological Andella, I can say about “Hellbreakers,” but that doesn’t mean Andran has the bandwidth that really helps. So even if you reach out to Andran, you may not necessarily have the room for you, but you may be able to link a little after the rebellion is over. So you’re not really choosing the sides that much, but if you had to choose the sides, we probably know what you’ll choose.

How about partnering with Dungeons and Dragons In a hateful safe?

It’s a truly decent opportunity to be able to venture in front of a whole new eye. It was an adventure because that was really the way Paizo started. So we are proud to be able to share them with any set of rules. That just happens to be something we linked to. We have made some adaptations of our adventure path A hateful safeand Gate Walker It’s coming soon, but that’s certainly not what we’re trying to do on every adventure. We keep looking at how they sell and whether it looks more at our storyline, so it’s going to be whether we’re doing more, or if you think you’re healthy, then it’s about us doing more.

I think one of the simplest parts about it is that unlike some collaborations, it’s much more one-way, as it doesn’t have to deal with a lot of intellectual property in their environment. So we don’t have to meet people every week. That’s more, hey, you’ve published your ruleset. I read the ruleset. nice. Now, let’s apply that rule set to what we’re doing.
