A new psychological thriller backed by Tyler Perry and Blumhouse Productions is gearing up for its highly anticipated release. Starring a talented cast and premiering at major film festivals, the film is set to premiere on streaming platforms this summer.
Directed by Malcolm D. Lee, String will premiere at the 30th American Black Film Festival in Miami Beach from May 27th to May 31st. The event celebrates 30 years of showcasing black talent in film. Following its debut, the film will be available to stream on Peacock starting June 26, according to Variety.
The story revolves around Chloe Bailey, who stars as a genius violinist. Her character takes a job as a prestigious tutor for a wealthy and mysterious family. What initially looks like a promising career opportunity quickly spirals into a tense psychological war for dominance and survival. The supporting cast includes Anna Diop, Lynn Whitfield, Lucien LaVicount, and Coco Jones, suggesting the film will blend strong character dynamics with suspense-thriller elements.
Tyler Perry is not the director, but he is one of the producers along with Jason Blum. The script is written by Alan McElroy, known for his intense, character-driven stories such as Spawn, Halloween 4, and Wrong Turn. Production is managed by Peachtree & Vine in association with Blumhouse, with additional support from Blackmald Productions.
Festival organizers emphasized Strung’s importance in this year’s lineup. Nice Crowd President Nicole Friday said Malcolm D. Lee’s return to the festival “feels especially appropriate at this moment,” coinciding with the event’s theme of “Homecoming.” She added, “Having a festival in Miami Beach is a special way to celebrate this milestone.”
With its high-profile premiere and quick transition to streaming, Strung is poised to reach a wide audience soon after its debut, promising an intense and captivating cinematic experience.
